SpeechGym: An Audio-Native Gym for Training Voice Agents via Reinforcement Learning

作者Jiajun Fan, Jingyuan Li, Prashanth Gurunath Shivakumar, Jia-Hong Huang, Qi Luo, M. Maruf, Ivan Bulyko, Ge Liu, Roger Ren

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Voice agents must call tools and hold multi-turn dialogue entirely through speech, yet the dominant paradigm trains them in text. Existing frameworks either cascade TTS and ASR around a proprietary voice API, where gradients cannot flow and per-call cost makes on-policy reinforcement learning prohibitive, or stay in text: they measure voice agents but cannot improve them. We present SpeechGym, an audio-native agentic environment in which two omni-modal models converse in native audio, with no external ASR or TTS and no API boundary, over the unmodified tasks, tools and success check of an established text agentic benchmark, so that the interaction modality is the only variable and the loop stays local and trainable end to end. Audio agentic capability does not follow from audio understanding. The failures speech introduces are perceptual rather than reasoning deficits: the agent picks the right tool and the right argument slot but fills it with a value misheard from the waveform, and that single error cascades into a failed call, a retry of the same call, and a wasted step budget. A second failure is behavioural: under an insistent caller the agent performs an unauthorised write and ends the episode believing it helped. Both are trainable, because the environment labels them for free: a call with a misheard argument fails against the database while a correct one succeeds. The obstacle is sparsity, not signal. Outcome-only GRPO is gradient-starved here, since almost every rollout group fails identically, while a per-turn process reward crediting each successful tool call restores variance to nearly every group. Trained this way, the agent transfers with no further tuning to an independently implemented voice benchmark, more than doubling task success and carrying an open-weights model from last place to second on that leaderboard, while using fewer turns and tokens than before training.

LLM Agents for Time-Series: A Survey

作者Yilong Chen, Xiao Qin, Chenghao Liu, Liang Wu, Noelle I. Samia, Kaize Ding

展开完整摘要收起摘要

LLM-based agents are increasingly being developed for time-series problems, but their design choices vary substantially across task settings. This survey adopts a problem-driven taxonomy that organizes these systems by the time-series problems they address rather than by isolated technical components. We group existing systems into four categories: forecasting and reasoning, augmentation and synthesis, anomaly detection and diagnosis, and decision support. Within each category, we examine how task requirements shape agent architecture, tool use, and memory design. We further summarize representative datasets and environments, and compare reported model performance under shared or closely related settings. Overall, this survey offers a task-oriented guide to designing LLM-based agents for time-series problems and identifies open gaps for future work.

Don't Overthink, Don't Underthink: Toward Adaptive Reasoning in Agentic AI

作者Md Jueal Mia, M. Hadi Amini

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Recent advances in Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown that increased inference-time reasoning can improve performance on complex tasks. However, many existing approaches rely on fixed or preallocated reasoning controls, such as fixed token budgets, pre-execution difficulty estimates, or activation-space interventions, and are often evaluated on standalone reasoning benchmarks rather than full agentic workflows. These assumptions may not hold in agentic AI systems, where reasoning requirements evolve dynamically through planning, tool use, memory retrieval, and agent-to-agent interactions. Consequently, reasoning can become either excessive or insufficient, resulting in unnecessary computation, increased latency, planning drift, excessive tool use, or incomplete solutions. We argue that a major challenge for next-generation agentic AI is not merely how much reasoning a language model should perform, but how it should allocate reasoning according to evolving task demands. We characterize over-reasoning and under-reasoning as recurring failure modes of misallocated reasoning and evaluate them on MATH-500 and the GAIA public validation benchmark. Using tool-decision latency, token consumption, token-limit exhaustion, and answer correctness, our results suggest that cases classified as over-reasoning are associated with higher computational cost without proportional accuracy gains, whereas cases classified as under-reasoning are consistently associated with incorrect or incomplete solutions. These findings motivate future research on adaptive reasoning mechanisms for agentic AI.

MeshReduce-U: Compiler-Guided Communication Reduction for Irregular Neural Reductions on Mesh NoCs

作者Amirreza Khorasanian

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Many irregular neural workloads induce skewed many-to-one reductions with repeated neighborhoods and nonlocal communication. Conventional NoC mappers optimize placement and routes for a fixed communication graph, even though associative reductions expose legal opportunities to eliminate traffic before routing. We present MeshReduce-U, a compiler-guided communication-reduction and routing framework for mesh-NoC-based spatial accelerators. MeshReduce-U coalesces colocated sources, forms local aggregation islands, blocks channels with compatible fan-in structure, selects capacity-feasible sinks, and routes the remaining fixed-width carriers using fused usage-aware costs. A deterministic route-replay model reports schedule-derived communication latency, total link usage (TLU), and fused link usage (FusedTLU) separately. Across a 20-workload lowerable neural-network zoo, MeshReduce-U reduces mean latency, TLU, and FusedTLU by 40.3%, 56.0%, and 48.7%, respectively, relative to an ABC-style source-aggregation baseline, improving all three metrics on every workload. Across 40 synthetic irregular reductions, it reduces mean latency and TLU by 12.3% and 19.7%. A new 30-instance pass-by-pass study further shows that the structural rewrites reduce the global carrier count by 60.9% and replay latency by 63.0%. These results show that rewriting reducible neural communication before routing can be more effective than searching harder over an unreduced traffic graph.

Pruning Binarized Neural Networks: A Dedicated Framework and Globally Weighted Algorithms

作者Roan Rubiales, Jean Pierre David

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Extreme compression of deep neural networks, up to full binarization, dramatically reduces memory footprint and arithmetic complexity, facilitating deployment on constrained edge hardware with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and microcontrollers. Although combining binarization with pruning promises additional efficiency gains, existing pruning strategies are ill-suited to binarized representations and rarely translate into meaningful hardware savings. We introduce a PyTorch-based, research-oriented framework that incorporates freezing and pruning mechanisms for designing and optimizing binarized neural networks. The framework enables rapid and reproducible evaluation of state-of-the-art approaches and the fast prototyping of new ones. Leveraging this framework, we propose a novel pruning method that accounts for the relative importance of learned parameters across abstraction levels. Such a global weighting mechanism consistently achieves a superior trade-off between model accuracy and pruning rate, achieving a 70% pruning rate on VGG11 with constant accuracy, while state-of-the-art results reach only 41% in the binarized setting.

Ankhdjet: An Open-Source Compiler for Mask-Programmed Ternary Compute-in-ROM on an Open PDK

作者Mohnish Pai

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large-language-model inference is dominated by weight movement: every generated token re-reads every weight. Ternary quantization (BitNet b1.58) shrinks each weight to 1.58 bits with reported parity at the 2B-parameter scale, small enough that hardwiring the weights into a read-only mask becomes plausible, and a commercial chip (Taalas HC1) has validated hardwired weights on an advanced node behind closed tooling. This paper asks whether model-specific silicon can be made reproducible with entirely open infrastructure. We present Ankhdjet, an open-source compiler that lowers a HuggingFace ternary checkpoint (BitNet b1.58 and its kin) to a via-mask program of a fixed compute-in-ROM macro on the open SKY130 PDK, verified end to end with open tools. We defend two claims: (1) the first open-source weights-to-mask compute-in-ROM compiler on a fabricable open PDK, taken through full open-toolchain signoff (KLayout DRC zero, netgen LVS zero, clean timing) twice with two different weight matrices through an identical flow in which only the mask differs; and (2) the first compute-in-ROM macro submitted for fabrication on an open PDK (TinyTapeout/ChipFoundry SKY130 shuttle ttsky26c, silicon expected 2027). The compiler's read is fully digital (full-swing bitline sampling into standard cells, so the emission ports to any node by synthesis); an analog comparator readout of the same machine is retained as a measured variant, replaced by the digital readout at one eighth the area. We additionally report the per-level adversarial verification methodology that caught three DRC-invisible silent shorts, a negative result on storing two ternary weights per transistor at 130 nm, and which analog sense techniques survive at which nodes. Read energy is from extracted-parasitic simulation (0.98-1.73 pJ per sensed weight); no energy measurements are claimed, and the fabricated vehicles are demonstrators.

Classical and Hybrid Quantum Machine Learning for Trigger-Like Event Selection on CMS Open Data: An Eight-Qubit, PCA-Constrained Benchmark

作者Tariq Mahmood, Muhammad Awais Rafique, Talab Hussain, Juan Pablo Perez Aguilar, Alfredo Raya, Muhammad Ahsan

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Event triggering sits at the heart of high-energy physics, where the rare events of interest must be retained while an overwhelming background is discarded under tight latency and bandwidth budgets. This work compares four classical machine learning models, namely a support vector machine, an artificial neural network, a convolutional network and a long short-term memory network, with four hybrid quantum counterparts, on a trigger-like binary classification task built from CMS open data. The label is defined by an invariant-mass window, and the inputs combine reconstructed kinematics with physics-motivated derived variables: the pseudorapidity difference, the wrapped azimuthal difference, the angular separation and the total transverse momentum. The quantum models run under a fixed resource budget of eight qubits, a principal-component compression to sixteen features and state-vector simulation. Every model shares the same stratified split, the same preprocessing and a common decision threshold, and performance is reported through accuracy, ROC-AUC, F1-score, precision and recall. The strongest classical model is the artificial neural network, at 93.53 percent accuracy and 0.9819 ROC-AUC, while the strongest quantum model is the quantum convolutional network, at 90.89 percent accuracy and 0.9731 ROC-AUC, with the quantum neural network close behind. The quantum-kernel and recurrent quantum approaches trail both, which places the trainable hybrid embeddings ahead within this budget. The study is meant as a controlled reference point rather than a claim of quantum advantage.

Cross-lingual Representation Learning via Centroid Intervention Fusion

作者Wei Sun, Marie-Francine Moens

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large language models (LLMs) exhibit uneven multilingual performance, especially when dealing with low-resource languages. Inference-time intervention offers a lightweight way to improve cross-lingual transfer by modifying the hidden states produced by the LLMs during the forward pass, without updating model parameters. However, existing cross-lingual intervention methods typically learn separate projections from source to target languages, which limits scalability and prevents knowledge sharing across languages. We propose Centroid Intervention Fusion (CIF), a projection fusion framework that consolidates multiple multilingual intervention projections into a single language-shared operator. Across multilingual commonsense reasoning, natural language inference, factual editing, and machine translation benchmarks, CIF outperforms the strongest prior pairwise intervention baseline by up to +3.378 pp on average across four model backbones, while supporting performance gains for low resource languages. The code is available at https://github.com/VRCMF/CIF.git.

Interpreting Latent Protein Language Model Features with Geometric Annotations

作者Siddharth Setlur, Djordje Mihajlovic, Darrick Lee

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Protein language models (pLMs) encode information about protein sequences which enable downstream tasks such as structure prediction, but their internal representations are not well understood. Sparse autoencoders (SAEs) provide a promising tool to disentangle latent pLM representations into interpretable features, but existing annotation pipelines largely rely on protein-level annotations derived from database labels and LLM annotations of top activating sequences. Such annotations can overlook the localized residue-level and geometric patterns encoded by sparse features. We introduce an automated and scalable method for interpreting SAE features in ESM-2 by using geometrically inspired features of the protein $\text{C}_α$ backbone. Across ESM-2 8M layers, an FDR-controlled discovery analysis shows that local geometry is significantly associated with many SAE features, with varying levels of predictive strength, expanding coverage beyond database and sequence-based methods. In particular, geometry can distinguish SAE features sharing the same database annotation, revealing substructure within known biological labels. A significant portion of SAE features activate on unannotated metagenomic protein sequences enabling us to use our SAE annotations to better understand these sequences. In addition, ablation experiments at the level of contact prediction show that removing found geometric features shifts ESM-2's predicted contact maps in the direction of the descriptor. This provides a robust method of annotating proteins activated within SAE neurons at a residue level, providing a bridge between mechanistic interpretability and structural biology.

NeuronFuzz: Safety Neuron Guided Fuzzing for LLM Safety Evaluation

作者Zhiyuan Xu, Muhammad Firhard Roslan, Joseph Gardiner, Sana Belguith, Lichao Wu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Safety evaluation is critical for assessing whether aligned Large Language Models (LLMs) remain robust against jailbreak attacks. Existing automated testing methods, however, largely rely on response-level feedback: each candidate prompt typically requires generating a target-model response to evaluate its attack effectiveness. This process is expensive and, more importantly, provides only sparse guidance on strongly aligned models, where most candidates are rejected with the same failure outcome. This paper presents NeuronFuzz, a white-box fuzzing framework that exploits internal safety neurons as continuous execution feedback for LLM safety evaluation. A SafetyOracle converts safety-neuron activations into a continuous safety alarm score that serves as feedback for fuzzing and can be obtained during prefill, eliminating response generation from the fuzzing loop. To construct the SafetyOracle, NeuronFuzz uses template-invariant harmful and benign inputs and stability-aware selection to identify a compact set of safety neurons whose activations capture harmful-intent recognition. Moreover, since the safety alarm score is differentiable, NeuronFuzz uses its gradients to identify safety-sensitive template positions and a masked language model to generate fluent, context-compatible mutations while preserving original harmful payload and avoiding additional optimization variables. We evaluate NeuronFuzz across 21 text and multimodal models. Across five white-box source models, it achieves a 76-100% jailbreak discovery rate, outperforming baselines by up to 48 percentage points. Its optimized templates further transfer zero-shot to open-weight and six proprietary target models, achieving average ASR and top-5 ensemble ASR (EASR) of 69.6%/92.6% and 44.1%/60.0%, respectively.

Neuro-symbolic PRM: Enhancing Scientific Reasoning via Structured Traces and Symbolic Verification

作者Yuxin Zi, Cong Xu, Suparna Bhattacharya, Martin Foltin, Amit Sheth

展开完整摘要收起摘要

While tool-augmented Large Language Models have significantly improved multi-step reasoning in quantitative STEM tasks, a critical residual failure mode remains: intermediate reasoning steps that are syntactically well-formed, mathematically executable, and unit-consistent, yet contextually ungrounded. Current approaches either rely on formal verifiers that cannot assess semantic intent, or burden Process Reward Models (PRMs) with the dual task of checking both arithmetic and logic. In this paper, we propose a neuro-symbolic framework that cleanly decouples reasoning into two formal dimensions: Symbolic Validity ($V$) and Semantic Groundedness ($G$). We guarantee $V$ by construction using a deterministic symbolic verifier acting as a hard filter. To assess $G$, we train a PRM conditionally on the verifier-accepted manifold. To train this PRM efficiently, we introduce Counterfactual Symbolic Perturbation (CSP), a novel data synthesis strategy that algorithmically generates constraint-preserving hard negatives (steps that perfectly pass the verifier but are logically flawed). At inference, we deploy a verifier-first constrained search that guarantees execution consistency for verifier-covered operations while relying on the PRM solely to rank semantic grounding. By targeting the exact residual error class of strong tool-using LLMs, our method significantly improves reasoning reliability without the sprawling heuristics of prior frameworks.

Towards a universal meta-optics solver via large language models

作者Huanshu Zhang, Lei Kang, Yuyan Chen, Luxiang Wang, Zhaolong Cao, Douglas H. Werner

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Metasurface design increasingly requires fast models that can operate across structurally distinct device families, rather than retraining a separate surrogate for every geometry class. Conventional neural network surrogates often depend on fixed-dimensional descriptors, family-specific output formats, and repeated architecture tuning, which limits their scalability across heterogeneous meta-atoms. Here, we present a unified large language model (LLM) workflow for multi-family metasurface modeling and inverse-design. Geometries, design parameters, and optical response channels were converted into a shared instruction-following text format and used to fine-tune Gemma-2-9B across 8 metasurface families. Compared with single-family baselines, the joint model simultaneously predicted the optical responses of all metasurface families while reducing the MSE for each family by an average of 56.5%. The same representation was also used for inverse design. These results show that a shared sequence-based LLM interface can provide a practical route to cross-family metasurface design while reducing the need for task-specific surrogate architectures.

Co-Evolving Structured Knowledge and Reasoning in Language Models

作者Ryan Thomas Noonan, Linxi Zhao, Menghan Xu, Akanksha Sarkar, Mihir Mishra, Dongyoung Go, Kilian Q. Weinberger, Yoav Artzi, Jennifer J. Sun

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Retrieval-augmented methods improve factual accuracy by grounding language models in external knowledge, but retrieving over unstructured text often introduces irrelevant context and offers limited control over the retrieved information. Structured knowledge bases offer a more controllable alternative, yet they are expensive to construct and often brittle to reason over. To address these limitations, we propose KBevo: a co-evolving framework that jointly learns to construct a structured knowledge base and reason over it for knowledge-intensive question answering. By optimizing both components end-to-end with QA outcome rewards, our method enables reasoning success to directly improve the quality of the constructed knowledge base. This leads to larger, better-connected knowledge structures with higher answer reachability, while also improving compositional factual reasoning and controllability compared to standard retrieval baselines.

Assessing mentalization in humans and large language models

作者Aamir Sohail, Xintong Zhong, Arkady Konovalov, Patricia L. Lockwood, Lei Zhang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Mentalization - the ability to infer others' beliefs and intentions to guide one's own choices - is a key cognitive function underlying human social interactions. Large language models (LLMs) demonstrate behaviour consistent with humans on theory-of-mind tasks, yet whether these models can guide adaptive behaviour through mentalization is unknown. Here we use two economic games with cognitive computational modeling to uncover the latent strategies underlying mentalization in LLMs. We tested individual LLM agents across four model families, DeepSeek, GPT-4.1, GPT-5 and Gemini 2.0 Flash (N = 2,099), against opponents of varying sophistication and examined whether a prompting strategy designed to elicit strategic reasoning improved performance. We benchmarked results against human participants (N = 251) as a comparative measure. Across both games, LLMs showed clear behavioural and computational signatures of mentalizing that differed markedly by model provider and size. Strategic prompting generally improved performance by inducing more sophisticated reasoning, yet the extent of the benefit differed across the two tasks. Last, GPT-5 agents flexibly adapted their recursive depth of reasoning to increasingly sophisticated opponents, demonstrating superior performance to human participants. Collectively, we demonstrate different capacities for mentalization across LLMs, and highlight cognitive computational modeling as a formal method for assessing comparative intelligence across humans and machines.

GraftSR: Grafting Authentic Textures for Real-World Image Super-Resolution via Identical-Instance Guidance

作者Qifan Yu, Haoran Bai, Zongyao He, Weijie He, Sibin Deng, Honggang Qi, Ying Chen

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Diffusion-based real-world image super-resolution (SR) achieves impressive perceptual quality but inherently suffers from severe texture hallucination. To overcome this limitation, we propose GraftSR, a texture-reference-guided generative SR framework that leverages reference images of the identical instance to anchor the restoration of authentic textures. However, severe spatial misalignment between low-quality inputs and their references poses significant challenges, often leading to ambiguous transfer targets and background feature leakage. To address these issues, GraftSR employs a novel dual-mask reference guidance mechanism that systematically decouples the cross-view texture injection process. By explicitly isolating what authentic textures to extract from the reference and precisely localizing where to apply them within the target, GraftSR achieves robust texture transfer without relying on brittle spatial alignment. Furthermore, to bridge the critical gap in appropriate training data, we construct TexRefSR-141K, the first large-scale dataset providing high-quality reference tuples equipped with complementary spatial masks. Extensive experiments on our newly established benchmark, TexRefSR-Eval, demonstrate that GraftSR sets a new state-of-the-art. Notably, it reduces LPIPS by 20.2% over top-performing baselines, achieving superior reference-faithful restoration.

Training Alignment Auditors via Reinforcement Learning

作者Paul Rosu, Rowan Wang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Alignment auditing of frontier models increasingly relies on LLM auditors to surface undesirable behaviors at scale, but current automated auditors can struggle with coherent investigation and audit realism. In this work, we improve LLM auditors with reinforcement learning. In our best training environment, the policy investigates target models that potentially possess hidden behaviors planted via their system prompt. An LLM judge, which knows whether the target has a hidden behavior, holistically compares the policy's investigation to a reference investigation to determine the reward. With systematic ablations, we find that pairwise rewards yield more robust training compared to pointwise rewards, and that adding targets without planted behaviors helps maintain a low false positive rate. Training improves investigation quality against targets with planted behaviors, the rate of concerning behaviors surfaced in unmodified production models, and audit realism, while false-positive rates stay below 1%. Furthermore, auditing capabilities generalize across scaffolds: performance on AuditBench's adversarially fine-tuned targets substantially improves [Sheshadri et al., 2026].

Mitigating LLM sycophancy with RL-based fine-tuning: Bayesian Truth Serum approach

作者Serhii Mytsyk, Yiming Zhang, Vikram Krishnamurthy

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large language models (LLMs) frequently exhibit sycophancy: they adapt their answers to a user's stated beliefs or preferences instead of reporting what they hold to be true, which lowers factual accuracy and can amplify misinformation. This paper proposes a methodology for mitigating sycophancy that employs the Bayesian Truth Serum (BTS), a peer-prediction mechanism, as the reward in Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) to fine-tune an LLM. BTS pays an answer for being surprisingly common, that is, more frequent among respondents than those respondents themselves predicted. We treat a group of responses from a model for one question as those respondents, so the reward is a function of the model's own outputs and fine-tuning needs neither labels nor preference annotations. We prove that in the large-group limit a sycophantic response earns strictly lower expected reward than an honest one. We also prove that if the entire group agrees in advance on a symmetric answering rule, it cannot earn a higher information score than under truthful reporting. On our true/false benchmark the reference model's answer-flip rate under user pressure decreases from 23% to 4%, and its accuracy under that pressure increases from 80% to 93%. Our reward outperforms SMART and is comparable to synthetic-data fine-tuning and to pinpoint tuning, all three of which train on labels. It spends considerably more compute in exchange, which makes it suitable when labeled data is scarce. Peer Truth Serum, which also pays a premium for a rare answer but elicits no prediction report, reproduces the effect. A peer-prediction reward computed inside a single GRPO group therefore reduces sycophancy without labels, and comparing mechanisms suggests that the premium paid for a rarer answer drives the effect.

VGA-BenchV2: An Expanded Unified Benchmark and Multi-Model Framework for Evaluating Video Aesthetics and Generation Quality

作者Longteng Jiang, DanDan Zheng, Qianqian Qiao, Heng Huang, Huaye Wang, Yihang Bo, Bao Peng, Jingdong Chen, Jun Zhou, Xin Jin

展开完整摘要收起摘要

We introduce VGA-BenchV2, an extended human-aligned benchmark and optimization framework for jointly evaluating and improving video generation quality and aesthetic value. Built upon VGA-Bench, VGA-BenchV2 preserves the original fine-grained taxonomy with two primary dimensions-Aesthetic and Generation-and 52 sub-dimensions. Guided by this taxonomy, we curate 1,016 diverse prompts and collect over 60,000 videos generated by 12 mainstream video generation models. More importantly, VGA-BenchV2 substantially expands human-labeled supervision by adding 36,000 task-level annotations, including 16,200 for aesthetic quality, 13,200 for aesthetic tagging, and 6,600 for generation quality, corresponding to 13.46x, 11.15x, and 1.55x scale-ups over VGA-Bench, respectively. Leveraging this enlarged annotation corpus, we develop a hybrid evaluator architecture consisting of VAQA-Net for continuous aesthetic scoring and two Qwen-based Large Vision-Language Model evaluators, VTag-Net and VGQA-Net, for aesthetic tagging and generation quality assessment. Extensive experiments demonstrate strong alignment with human judgments across diverse generation models. Beyond evaluation, VGA-BenchV2 further introduces an evaluation-to-optimization pipeline, where the learned aesthetic evaluator serves as a reward model for reinforcement learning-based generator fine-tuning. This closes the loop from benchmark construction and human supervision to automated evaluation and model optimization, enabling video generators to improve not only in realism but also in aesthetic quality and human preference alignment. Provable Non-Acceleration of Standard Strang Splittings of Kinetic Langevin Dynamics

作者Nawaf Bou-Rabee

展开完整摘要收起摘要

The OBABO and BAOAB schemes and the other standard Strang splittings of kinetic (underdamped) Langevin dynamics are widely used Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms. Under a suitable friction scaling, the underlying diffusion relaxes on a ballistic time scale, suggesting that these discretizations, suitably tuned, sample targets with condition number $κ$ in $O(\sqrtκ)$ iterations. We prove that no fixed choice of step size and friction, based only on the curvature bounds and the dimension, achieves this acceleration: total variation mixing time lower bounds for OBABO show that ballistic cold-start mixing fails uniformly over the smooth strongly convex class, and the lower bounds extend, with the same orders, to BAOAB and the other four Strang splittings. The proof transfers non-acceleration from optimization to sampling. Eliminating velocity gives an exact noisy heavy-ball recursion, and by the non-acceleration theorem of Goujaud, Taylor and Dieuleveut, for every tuning either some Gaussian target has a mode with relaxation time at least of order $κ$, or an attracting cycle exists on a smooth potential; dilating such a potential as $U_R(x)=R^2U(x/R)$ preserves its curvature bounds and produces metastability for a number of steps exponential in $R^2$, from an initial state at Wasserstein distance $O(R)$ from equilibrium. Using contraction estimates of Leimkuhler, Paulin and Whalley and a Wasserstein-to-total-variation regularization estimate, we prove a complementary upper bound of $O(κ)$ steps, up to logarithmic factors, for a fixed-parameter OBABO tuning. Hence, among fixed-parameter OBABO tunings, the optimal condition-number dependence of cold-start total variation mixing over this class is linear, up to logarithmic factors. A direct Gaussian calculation also rules out fixed-parameter acceleration for the left-endpoint exponential integrator.

VISTA: Visually Inferred Spatial ConTact Attention for Contact-Rich Manipulation

作者Jiayi Chen, Wenlong Dong, Yan Huang, Xianglin Chen, Zijian Lin, Jiaqi Yin, Yushan Liu, Wenbo Ding

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Contact-rich manipulation requires precise interaction feedback. While vision-centric imitation learning is prevalent, external visual observations provide indirect and ambiguous cues about contact states, particularly under occlusion or subtle object--gripper interactions; dedicated tactile or force sensors can provide rich contact information but introduce additional hardware complexity, calibration requirements, and deployment costs. To bridge this gap, we propose VISTA-Policy, an imitation learning paradigm that utilizes the Visual Deformation Field (VDF), a 3D displacement representation of a compliant gripper, as high-dimensional visuo-physical feedback. The framework integrates: 1) a Physics-Aware Encoding Engine for real-time VDF decoding; 2) an Energy Aggregation Denoising Mechanism to isolate true interaction signals; and 3) a Deformation-Augmented Policy Network with incremental gripper actions for precise closed-loop correction. Extensive evaluations on Cross-Scale Object Grasping, Cap Unscrewing, and Calligraphy Writing demonstrate that VISTA-Policy outperforms the strong pure-vision baseline 3D Diffusion Policy and the tactile baseline. VISTA-Policy further demonstrates substantial out-of-distribution generalization to unseen object scales and robustness against dynamic disturbances, offering a durable and cost-effective route toward general-purpose fine-grained manipulation in unstructured environments. MoganBert-TR: A Turkish Encoder Foundation Model Trained from Scratch with a CLM-to-MLM Curriculum

作者Furkan Yilmaz, Habibe Aleyna Tasdemir, Muhammed Faruk Gozay

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Turkish encoder models have adopted modern architectures while leaving the pretraining objective fixed at masked language modelling. This paper introduces MoganBert-TR, a 149M-parameter Turkish encoder foundation model trained from scratch on a language-specifically filtered corpus, together with an embedding model derived from it (MoganBert-Embed). MoganBert-TR is trained over 237.3B tokens with a two-stage CLM-to-MLM curriculum: causal language modelling first, masked language modelling for the remainder, with the transition made inside the stable phase of a WSD schedule. In a controlled ablation under an equal step budget, this design outperforms pure MLM by 2.7-3.7x on Turkish MS MARCO retrieval; the measured mechanism is embedding geometry, where a single direction absorbs 28.1% of the variance under pure MLM against 11.9% under the curriculum. Long-context extension and learning-rate decay are then split into two branches after a shared prefix: running the final portion of decay at 1024 context improves the TrGLUE average by 0.49 +/- 0.26 points across five paired seeds (p = 0.013) and beats a model-soup alternative by 0.75 points at ~4.3% additional cost. MoganBert-TR attains 78.41 on TrGLUE, the best among the Turkish ModernBERT models compared, and 77.73 on TabiBench, where it leads two of the eight categories with the largest margin on code retrieval (+3.62 points over TabiBERT). MoganBert-Embed, produced through teacher distillation and multi-signal contrastive fine-tuning, ranks first among student models on the MTEB(Turkish) overall average with 68.30 and reaches 99.5% of its 7.57B-parameter teacher's score with a 51x smaller backbone. The accompanying 50,048-token tokenizer outperforms all compared Turkish tokenizers on compression and fertility across two independent test sets. Where to Look Matters: On-Policy Self-Distillation for Long-Video Understanding

作者Kaishen Wang, Dongdi Zhao, Yijun Liang, Dingqiang Ye, Ruibo Chen, Heng Huang, Di Fu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Vision-language models (VLMs) have made substantial progress in long-video understanding, with standard backbone models typically answering questions from frames sampled across the full video. However, as videos become longer, the full-video context inevitably contains more question-irrelevant temporal content, which can distract the model from the evidence needed to answer a specific question. We empirically find that focusing the visual input on short annotated clue intervals containing question-relevant evidence consistently improves prediction accuracy across model scales compared with using the corresponding full videos, while requiring fewer input frames. Based on this finding, we introduce Clue-OPSD, a clue-privileged on-policy self-distillation framework for long-video understanding. During training, a full-video student learns from a self-teacher conditioned on the corresponding clue interval by aligning their next-token distributions along student-generated trajectories. Clue-OPSD thus uses clue intervals as privileged supervision without relying on ground-truth answer labels, while requiring no clue annotations or additional modules at inference time. Extensive experiments across multiple long-video understanding benchmarks and Qwen3.5 model scales demonstrate consistent improvements over the corresponding backbone models and strong performance against supervised post-training baselines.

Socialized Detector Learning: Trajectory-Guided and Reciprocal Distillation for Heterogeneous Object Detectors

作者Weihao Li, Yunqi Zhu, Zhihe Fan, Ruipu Zhao, Boan Tao, Xinjie Yao, Yan Fan, Pengfei Zhu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Object detection knowledge is fragmented across independently trained, heterogeneous detectors with complementary category supports. In socialized learning, this knowledge resides in a society, and learning aims to evolve the society collectively through exchange. However, aggregation-based socialization does not explicitly plan transfer order, whereas progressive multi-teacher distillation considers order but remains a one-way student enhancement in a shared category space. Building on Socialized Learning, we formulate Socialized Detector Learning (SDL) for heterogeneous, category-specialized object detectors and propose Trajectory-Guided and Reciprocal Distillation (TGRD).TGRD estimates directed operational Inter-Detector Transfer Difficulty (IDTD) from held-out feature-alignment residuals, precomputes a fixed score table, and greedily constructs a carrier trajectory. Along the trajectory, knowledge is progressively consolidated into a union-category carrier and then returned to experts through reciprocal transfer. A conditional proxy-certificate analysis shows that, under stated assumptions, the progressive certificate is no larger than an aggregated-target counterpart. On MS COCO with four heterogeneous experts and two carrier initializations, final carriers outperform epoch-matched simultaneous aggregation controls by 2.6 AP in both settings. Reciprocal detectors attain 20.8--28.4 AP on previously unsupported categories while remaining within 1.3 AP of original expert-specific performance. These results support order-aware progressive consolidation followed by reciprocal transfer as a viable mechanism for detector-society evolution.

DualOPSD: Adaptive Privileged Teachers for On-Policy Self-Distillation

作者Yutong Chen, Guangfu Guo, Zhichao Xu, Kunpeng Liu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

On-policy self-distillation (OPSD) uses a privileged copy of the student model to provide dense supervision without an external teacher. OPSD keeps this privileged teacher fixed, even though the student distribution and output style change during training. We propose DualOPSD, an asymmetric alternating framework that adapts both policies. The student first learns from the privileged teacher. The teacher then moves toward the updated student distribution on the same student trajectory. This update makes later supervision responsive to the learner and does not require another rollout. On Qwen3-8B in non-thinking mode, DualOPSD improves avg@12 over OPSD by 23.61, 13.89, and 10.00 points on AIME 2024, AIME 2025, and HMMT 2025. Results at 1.7B and 4B show that the accuracy gain depends on model scale. Across all three scales, DualOPSD reduces truncation. The 4B diagnostic also shows lower KL in both directions between the teacher and student.

One Symptom, Three Levers: A Critical Review of On-Policy Self-Distillation

作者Justin Robert, Raheel Qader

展开完整摘要收起摘要

On-policy distillation trains a language model on its own generations while a teacher scores them token by token. It combines the dense supervision of imitation learning with the on-policy sampling of reinforcement learning. But it requires a second, larger model to act as teacher. On-Policy Self-Distillation (OPSD) removes that cost. The teacher is the model itself, conditioned on privileged information the student will not have at test time, such as a reference solution, a plan, or environment feedback. The teacher is no stronger than the student, only better informed. Early results were promising, with accuracy comparable to reinforcement learning at a fraction of the generated tokens. But the same asymmetry that produces the signal also biases it. One failure mode now dominates the field: collapse, the progressive narrowing of the set of reasoning paths the model can produce. Collapse is not specific to OPSD, though privileged information aggravates it. This review treats collapse as a symptom governed by three levers: (i) where the signal is applied, that is, how tokens are weighted; (ii) what the teacher is shown, that is, the nature of the privileged information; and (iii) when the signal changes, that is, the teacher's dynamics and the decay of guidance. We restrict our scope to mathematical reasoning, where the method originated and where its failure modes are best documented. We report no new experiments. The contribution is structural: a shared vocabulary for phenomena named differently across papers, and a clear line between what is settled and what is still disputed.

展开完整摘要收起摘要

On-policy distillation (OPD) supervises a student on its own trajectories with token-level signals from a frozen teacher, yet how a sampled loss allocates updates across tokens remains poorly understood. We analyze the gradient of the per-token K2 estimator of reverse KL with respect to the student logits. The $\ell_1$ norm of this gradient factorizes into the absolute teacher--student log-probability gap and a student-side softmax factor that grows as the sampled token becomes less likely under the student. In our math-distillation runs, these per-token norms are highly non-uniform: low-student-probability tokens account for a disproportionate share of their sum and are also enriched in large teacher--student gaps. As a lightweight intervention suggested by this analysis, we study Surprise-aware Reweighting (SuRe), a detached, bounded weighting rule that further amplifies this existing allocation. Across two Qwen3 student scales, SuRe improves several math metrics over vanilla OPD and shows no clear degradation on the selected out-of-domain benchmarks. Our primary contribution is therefore a gradient-level characterization of reverse-KL OPD trained with the K2 estimator, with SuRe as one empirical instantiation.

RTLGuard: A Lightweight Teacher-Student Defense for Poisoned RTL Code Generation Models

作者Mahshid Rezakhani, Kimia Azar, Hadi Kamali

展开完整摘要收起摘要

The rapid advancement of large language models (LLMs) is driving a shift toward automated register transfer level (RTL) code generation, enabling designers to translate high-level specs. into synthesizable hardware. However, this reliance on pre-trained (3rd-party) fine-tuned models may introduce critical trust issues, as the training data and adaptation process of these models are often opaque. Thus, adversaries (even model providers) may embed hidden backdoor threats during fine-tuning, allowing malicious behavior, e.g., hardware Trojans, to be triggered by seemingly benign prompts given by victim user at inference time. In this paper, we introduce RTLGuard, to mitigate such a trust issue in AI-enabled IC supply chain. Rather than prohibitive computational cost of full-parameter retraining, RTLGuard leverages a teacher-student framework designed to sanitize compromised RTL generation models by (1) fine-tuning a small-scale, "clean" teacher model on a limited set of trusted RTL data, (2) guiding the poisoned target model via a composite teacher-student objective, and (3) incorporating feature alignment and knowledge distillation to suppress malicious behaviors. Our experiments across various LLM architectures demonstrate that RTLGuard significantly reduces the Attack Success Rate (ASR) while preserving the functional correctness and synthesizability of the generated RTL code.

Fast Generative Grasping via Lie Group-Constrained MeanFlow

作者S. Talha Bukhari, Yi Wei, Ruiqi Ni, Zachary Kingston, Aniket Bera

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Grasp synthesis is a core task in robotic manipulation, for which the solution typically forms a multimodal distribution rather than a point estimate. Generative robotic grasping aims to learn this distribution with deep generative models such as diffusion and flow-based approaches. The iterative nature of such generative models makes them flexible and generalizable; however, multi-step sampling impedes the time-critical operation required in robotics. We devise an approach to fast generative grasping based on MeanFlow on the product Lie group $\mathcal{G} = \mathrm{SO}(3) \times \mathbb{R}^3$. The training objective couples a purely algebraic semigroup consistency condition with Riemannian Conditional Flow Matching on $\mathcal{G}$ that anchors the average velocity to the data distribution. The resulting Lie Group-constrained MeanFlow formulation samples reliable grasps in $\leq 5$ network evaluations, matching the grasp generation performance of state-of-the-art diffusion and flow-based models on the ACRONYM dataset at millisecond-scale inference latency (up to $39\times$ speed-up). We further demonstrate that the approach directly translates to real-world robotic grasping without additional training or domain adaptation, exhibiting robust grasp synthesis under observation noise.

Efficient Training with Foresight: Multi-Token Auxiliary Supervision for Autoregressive Image Generation

作者Guo Niu, Xiongfei Yao, Teng Wang, Nannan Zhu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Autoregressive (AR) image generation has shown strong potential for scalable high-fidelity synthesis by modeling images as discrete token sequences. However, traditional next token prediction (NTP) continues to suffer from sparse and myopic supervision, insufficiently discriminative representations, and high training cost caused by dense computation over the full token sequence. To address these issues, we propose multi-token autoregressive (MTAR), a unified training framework that improves autoregressive image generation from three aspects: prediction objectives, representation regularization, and training efficiency. Specifically, MTAR introduces multi-token prediction (MTP) to alleviate the sparsity and myopia of traditional NTP by imposing joint supervision on multiple future tokens; employs token-level contrastive regularization (TCR) to explicitly enhance the separability of sampled token representations and thereby improve representation discriminability; and incorporates semantic dropping (SD) as a semantics-aware training acceleration strategy to reduce redundant computation on low-information tokens while preserving informative learning signals. All three components are applied only during training and introduce no additional overhead during autoregressive inference. On ImageNet, MTAR achieves a better balance between generation quality and training efficiency. Compared with LlamaGen, MTAR achieves up to 0.95 lower FID and 39% faster training. Moreover, even with only 1/3 of the training iterations, it still attains performance comparable to or better than the baseline, substantially reducing training time.

ConfAL-WM: Confidence-Guided Active Learning for Action-Conditioned World Models

作者Xiang Liu, Sen Cui, Changshui Zhang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Action-conditioned world models have become an important foundation for embodied prediction, planning, and synthetic data generation, but their errors under new task and scene distributions are often concentrated in localized spatiotemporal regions such as robot arms, manipulated objects, contact areas, and occluded objects. This paper presents ConfAL-WM, a confidence-guided active learning framework for post-training embodied world models. Built upon EVAC, we attach a lightweight confidence probe to UNet decoder features and predict dense confidence maps in the latent space. These maps are aggregated into task-, frame-, and patch-level scores, enabling both efficient data selection and localized training enhancement. Our pipeline first retrains the confidence probe and warms up EVAC with a small subset of target-domain data, then performs task-level prescreening to allocate sampling budgets, and finally applies selected-data retraining with optional frame or patch weighted data enhancement. Experiments on RoboTwin2.0 show that confidence-guided selection improves post-training efficiency, while dense frame and patch weighting further enhances prediction quality and embodied trajectory consistency compared with scalar reward, progress, and judge-based scoring baselines.
