SyRHM: Symbolic-Language-Enhanced Reasoning with Associative Retrieval for Zero-shot Harmful Meme Detection

作者Hanling Wang, Chenlong Wei, Yingjuan Li, Di Wu, Yuchao Zhang, Xiaohui Zhu, Yao Zhu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Detecting harmful memes is critical for maintaining safe online communities. However, harmful intent is often implicit, arising from visual-textual incongruity and cultural stereotypes, which challenges existing multimodal detectors. We propose SyRHM, a framework that decomposes harmful meme detection into meaning-grounded retrieval and symbolic-language-enhanced multi-stage reasoning. SyRHM retrieves semantically related memes by parsing multimodal content into textual elements and descriptions, providing grounded context beyond surface-level similarity. Building on the retrieved context, SyRHM uses a translator stage to convert multimodal inputs into symbolic intermediate representations, and then performs multi-stage reasoning via planner and solver stages, enabling expressive and interpretable analysis of harmful intent. Experiments on FHM, HarM, and MultiOff demonstrate the effectiveness of SyRHM, achieving superior performance on most evaluation settings against multimodal and reasoning-based baselines, while providing reasoning traces for harmful content. When Tools Get in the Way: The Effect of Unnecessary Tool Availability on LLM Answering

作者Saanvi Paturi, Arsen Kenzhebayev, Arham Sethi, Vyas Raina, Ivaxi Sheth, Vatsal Raina

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed with external tools that extend what they can do beyond their own knowledge. Tools help on tasks that need external information, but their availability may also change how a model handles questions that do not need them. Prior work has mostly asked whether models select and use tools appropriately; whether an unnecessary tool changes the correctness of answers has received less attention. We ask whether making a related but unnecessary tool available affects a model's ability to answer from its own knowledge, and whether a preceding tool interaction changes this behaviour. We construct 500 query pairs across 10 knowledge domains. Each pair consists of a tool query, which needs the domain's tool, and a closed-domain query, which does not. Six LLMs are evaluated with the tool unavailable, available, and available after a prior tool call. Across 3,000 baseline trials the pooled answer rate is 98.2%. When an unnecessary tool is available it falls to 63.5%, with large differences between models. The decrease occurs even when the tool is rarely called, so it cannot be explained by unnecessary tool invocation alone. A one-sentence scope-aware system instruction recovers most of the lost answers.

Introspective Uncertainty Estimation for LLM-Based Code Generation

作者Thomas Klassert

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly used for code generation but can produce fluent yet functionally incorrect outputs, which limits trust in their usage for practical software engineering workflows. This thesis investigates whether Introspective Uncertainty Estimation (IUE), based on internal hidden-state representations of LLMs, can reliably indicate correctness at the response and line levels for code generation tasks. The objective is to determine the extent to which hidden states encode information about functional code correctness and how this can be leveraged for practical risk assessment and fault localization. Methodologically, this thesis combines response-level evaluation on LiveCodeBench (LCB) and BigCodeBench (BCB) with an augmentation pipeline that derives token- and line-level labels from incorrect programs. In this setup, it compares static and dynamic response-level features, evaluates generalization across tasks, programming domains, and token positions, and studies line-level fault localization. The results show that hidden states contain a strong response-level correctness signal. Static single-token probes perform best, while more elaborate dynamic strategies yield no consistent gains. While generalization across tasks, domains, and token positions is feasible, setting-dependent degradation largely remains for real-world software projects. At a fine granularity, line-level prediction is substantially harder than response-level estimation. However, in a conditional localization setup with known-incorrect programs, Top-K point-of-failure ranking remains effective. Overall, the findings suggest that hidden states are a robust and informative resource for estimating functional code correctness, supporting a two-stage workflow that combines response-level risk screening with targeted line-level prioritization.

展开完整摘要收起摘要

As large language models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed in real-world high-stakes applications, effective governance has become essential. Existing safeguards largely follow two paradigms: learning-based guards provide strong semantic discrimination but couple policy behavior to trained models and taxonomies, while programmable frameworks offer flexible control but require substantial manual prompt and workflow engineering. Neither externalizes policies as reusable operational states, making it difficult to consistently reuse policy evidence across detection, intervention, and verification. In this paper, we introduce PolicyMem, a geometric policy memory that externalizes natural-language policies as reusable geometric memory objects represented by low-rank subspaces in a shared representation space. A memory writer compiles natural-language policies into policy memory slots, and query-response pairs read the policy memory through projection energy. The resulting policy-evidence profile directly mediates the safety verdict and is reused for policy attribution and post-intervention verification. Coupled with a response rewriter, PolicyMem enables a detect-rewrite-verify loop for LLM governance. Across five widely used benchmarks, PolicyMem achieves state-of-the-art unsafe behavior detection while enabling effective policy attribution, rewriting, and post-intervention verification through the shared policy memory.

T-SMART: Mechanism-Level Attribution for Tool-Augmented Time-Series Question Answering

作者Ivan Delgado, Himansi Gupta, Bishal Khatri, Niharika Sapre, Lameta Shamoon, Onat Gungor, Tajana Rosing

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large language models (LLMs) can struggle with time-series question answering (TS-QA), especially when numerical signals are serialized as text and require explicit computation. Tool-augmented approaches improve performance, but existing systems often intertwine language reasoning, computation, and perception, making it difficult to determine which components drive the gains. We present T-SMART, a neurosymbolic framework that separates these roles: a frozen LLM interprets questions and selects operations, deterministic tools perform numerical computation, and structured perception is invoked only when needed. Controlled paired ablations show that deterministic computation provides the dominant benefit, improving accuracy by 31.7 percentage points over direct LLM reasoning on serialized time series, while language understanding and perception offer smaller complementary gains. These results indicate that tool-augmented TS-QA benefits primarily from reliable numerical execution rather than additional language-model reasoning and provide a controlled framework for analyzing component contributions in neurosymbolic time-series systems.

StepPrune: Adaptive Sequential Visual Token Selection across Multimodal Large Language Models

作者Hansen Zhang, Landi He, Mingde Yao, Lijian Xu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Visual prefixes account for a major portion of the per-layer computation in multimodal large language models (MLLMs), making visual-token pruning a direct approach to accelerating inference. Existing top-K methods typically evaluate tokens independently and apply a uniform budget to all inputs, overlooking both selection-dependent interactions and variations in visual complexity across samples. In contrast, we propose StepPrune, which formulates visual-token pruning as an adaptive sequential decision process. Conditioned on previously selected tokens and textual context, StepPrune progressively constructs the retained subset and automatically determines its size through a learned STOP action. During training, a variance-preserving noise gate provides a differentiable surrogate for the discrete selection process, whereas during inference, unselected tokens are physically removed before language-model prefill. A grouped selection mechanism further extends StepPrune to high-resolution inputs. Experiments across LLaVA-1.5, LLaVA-NeXT, Qwen2.5-VL, and InternVL3 show that StepPrune achieves the best average normalized performance retention across all evaluated pruning rates on LLaVA-1.5, Qwen2.5-VL, and InternVL3, while remaining competitive on the substantially longer AnyRes prefixes of LLaVA-NeXT. On LLaVA-1.5, StepPrune retains 94.6% of the full-prefix normalized performance while pruning 88.9% of the visual tokens. At a mean retained count of 64, StepPrune reduces prefill latency from 59.95 ms to 40.05 ms, corresponding to a 1.50x prefill speed-up.

How Many Thoughts Can a Vector Hold? The Capacity of Reasoning by Superposition

作者Hongyu Gu, Chang Liu, Jingwen Fu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large language models solve hard problems through intermediate computations across multi-step reasoning. Traditional chain-of-thought encodes these computations as tokens. Recent continuous and recurrent methods instead move partial computations into fixed-dimensional latent states, where a single thought can superpose multiple alternatives. This raises a fundamental design question:what should continuous thoughts preserve as reasoning proceeds? An intuitive approach discards past computations and keeps only the current reasoning frontier. Storing more items seems to dilute states and waste limited representational capacity. We show this intuition can be incorrect. Under identical downstream computations, cumulative superposition retaining full reasoning history can require lower representational dimensions than frontier-only superposition holding only current alternatives. At fixed hidden width, this advantage allows latent reasoners to retain more valid evidence, distinguish more plausible downstream outcomes, and delay the point where compressed states turn unreliable. This counter-intuitive effect emerges because informative historical components coherently reinforce each other, while unrelated alternatives bring random interference. This perspective also answers a practical design question: how should models weight memories accumulated inside latent states when their future use is unknown? Across reusable weighted superpositions, prioritizing a small set of recent or salient items produces weakly-represented memories that bottleneck subsequent attention. Uniform cumulative weighting avoids this flaw, and we prove it is minimax-optimal for robust future reasoning. Our results turn superposition from an observed latent-space effect into a design principle: balanced cumulative memory lets a fixed representational budget support more reliable, reusable computations.

Convergent Emergence of In-Context Learning Across Modalities

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Few-shot in-context learning (ICL), the capacity of a model to infer abstract patterns from input-output examples provided in its prompt and apply them to new inputs, has been extensively studied in large language models trained for next-token prediction on human text. Recently, few-shot ICL has been demonstrated in autoregressive genomic models as well. This raises a question: does ICL emerge broadly across domains, and if so, what common structure is shared? To address both, we develop a controlled cross-modality framework that instantiates the same task suite in a variety of modalities to test what we call the Convergent Emergence Hypothesis: the idea that few-shot ICL, when it emerges, shares a common cross-modality difficulty profile - i.e., tasks that benefit from ICL in one modality tend to benefit in others. We show that paired-mapping ICL emerges across six modalities (language, genome, integer sequences, time series, images, and proteins), surpasses controlled baselines, and has correlated per-task effects across five of them. Together, these results provide support for the Convergent Emergence Hypothesis in some modalities, but not all.

When Consistency Does Not Mean Reliability: Evaluating Local LLM Judges Against Human Ratings

作者Aakash Kumar Tiwari

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used to evaluate the responses of other language models. This approach, known as LLM-as-a-Judge, is faster and cheaper than human evaluation. However, a judge may produce consistent scores without necessarily agreeing with human evaluators. In this work, we study this issue using two local open-weight LLM judges, LLaMA-3-8B and Qwen2.5-7B. We evaluate 300 responses generated by an instruction-tuned GPT-2 (124M) model for 100 questions covering five categories: factual knowledge, instruction following, mathematics, reasoning, and writing. Each response is scored by nine human annotators and is evaluated three times by each LLM judge using the same rubric. We compare the judge scores with the average human scores using Pearson correlation, Spearman correlation, mean absolute error (MAE), signed bias, and self-consistency. LLaMA-3-8B shows a Pearson correlation of 0.275 with human scores, while Qwen2.5-7B achieves 0.340. Their MAEs are 27.71 and 18.64, respectively. Despite this limited agreement, both judges show high self-consistency, with exact consistency rates of 97.3% for LLaMA-3-8B and 92.3% for Qwen2.5-7B. These results show that high self-consistency does not necessarily indicate high agreement with human judgments. Our findings highlight the need to evaluate both consistency and human alignment when using local LLMs as automatic judges.

Towards Evolving Context Parameterization for Large Language Models

作者Xiaobing Shi, Zherui Li, Yiming Jiang, Kun Wang, Yufei Guo

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Context parameterization enables large language models (LLMs) to internalize contexts into reusable model parameters, avoiding repeated processing across subsequent queries. However, existing methods typically assume static contexts and lack explicit mechanisms for distinguishing validity states under continual updates. To study this real-world scenario, we formalized the Memory Updating with Sequential Evolution (MUSE) task and constructed MUSE-bench to evaluate update incorporation and unaffected-information preservation. The resulting challenge requires preserving the global state while adjusting the contribution of memory evidence. Motivated by this, we proposed PLUME, a training-free method that constructs a global update representation, activates memory evidence to form a local parameter view, and adaptively integrates their predictions during decoding. Comprehensive evaluation on MUSE-bench demonstrated PLUME's effectiveness in sequential evolution settings, yielding relative improvements of 29.9% in average ROUGE-L Recall and 54.9% in LLM-as-a-Judge. 展开完整摘要收起摘要

We formulate Artistic Intelligence as exploration driven world realization, leaving space for creative possibility while preserving the semantic, artistic, and compositional structure that must remain true. Moonworks Lunara, a text-to-image model, implements this framework with a novel Diffusion Mixture Transformer architecture. A new training algorithm iteratively evolves the data distribution through informative sample acquisition and targeted injection of human-created art. We benchmark Lunara against seven image-generation models, including FLUX.2-Klein-4B, Qwen-Image (20B), and GPT-Image-1-Mini. With GPT-5.6 Sol as evaluator, Lunara ranks first in Aesthetic Quality (8.473 vs. 8.457 GPT-Image-1-mini), second in Emotional Resonance, and remains competitive in Content Integrity. A blind human evaluation over the same evaluation set corroborates the automated metrics, ranking Lunara first. It also stays among the strongest models under conventional measures including CLIPScore and LAION Aesthetic Predictor. On GenEval, Lunara achieves competitive performance against a broader set of 16 models, including GPT Image 2 and Seedream 4.0. These results place Lunara at the frontier with Artistic Intelligence while maintaining a sub-10B active-parameter footprint and sub-10-second inference latency. Lunara advances the general visual intelligence frontier by shifting the question from whether models can get images right to how deeply they can interpret meaning and realize it as imaginative, expressive worlds.

展开完整摘要收起摘要

As AI systems evolve into personalized digital companions, a central capability is reasoning over a user's long-term personal history: not merely storing past events, but tracking longitudinal experiences and evolving preferences. Progress here is bottlenecked by evaluation, existing long-term memory benchmarks are largely synthetic and text-only, they overlook the visual records that anchor everyday human memory, lack the authentic and causally connected longitudinal data that real personalization demands, and consequently remain confined to shallow factual recall. We introduce ReaLMem (Real-world Long-term Multimodal Memory), the first benchmark built from authentic multi-year personal visual archives, paired with first-person subjective annotations. ReaLMem evaluates models across three cognitive tiers of increasing difficulty: factual recall, persona inference, and predictive personalization. We further propose ChronoProfiler, a temporal-weighting profiling module that computes temporal stability scores for user attributes and applies them as a salience prior, resolving conflicts among temporally inconsistent preferences and helping models compound multiple co-active preferences in complex personalized decisions. Extensive evaluation of frontier multimodal large language models (MLLMs) and memory systems on ReaLMem reveals predictive personalization as a consistent ceiling, exposes clear performance gaps and bottlenecks between MLLMs and memory systems, and shows that high-quality, temporally informed representations substantially improve personalization. Together, ReaLMem and ChronoProfiler provide an authentic testbed and a simple, effective mechanism for long-term personalization, laying a foundation for future research on lifelong AI companions.

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Ultra-low-dose computed tomography (ULDCT) reduces radiation exposure but suffers from severe noise that degrades diagnostic image quality. Existing deep learning-based denoising methods are typically trained in an organ-specific fashion, resulting in limited generalization across heterogeneous multi?organ imaging scenarios. Foundation models present a promising all-in-one paradigm for unified multi-organ denoising. However, their architectures suffer from poor interpretability and rely on heuristic training strategies. To address these limitations, we propose an architecture?interpretable foundation model based on the deep dictionary network (DDN) for unified multi-organ ULDCT denoising. Inspired by multilayer sparse representation theory, DDN cascades convolutional sparse coding layers with iterative soft-thresholding, providing inherent architectural interpretability. Furthermore, a dynamic dictionary module and a threshold generation module are embedded within each layer to enhance representation ability. We conduct DDN pre-training on more than one million multi-organ normal-dose CT images by recovering clean images from Gaussian-noised inputs. Sparse regularization is additionally imposed on latent feature representations, guiding the network to learn compact and noise-robust priors. The complete architecture is jointly fine-tuned on multi-organ ULDCT datasets, enabling a single unified model to perform denoising across diverse anatomical regions. Extensive experiments validate that our proposed method achieves state-of-the?art performance and consistently surpasses competing ULDCT methods across all mul

Sampling via Decision-Flow: Training-Free Extraction of Improved Latent Reasoning Paths in Large Language Models

作者Zhendong Mi, Shaoyi Huang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

A central question in LLM reasoning is whether reinforcement learning (RL) instills genuinely new capabilities or merely reshapes how existing knowledge is expressed during inference. Building on the distribution-sharpening hypothesis, which holds that RL reallocates probability mass toward high-reward trajectories already latent in base models, we ask: can we unlock those latent paths without costly RL fine-tuning? We present Decision-Flow Sampling (DF-Sample), a training-free, data-free inference-time framework that constructs a hierarchical reasoning tree, scores terminal nodes for quality, and back-propagates utilities to inform each intermediate branching decision. Unlike conventional sampling strategies that make purely local step-wise choices, DF-Sample performs explicit global trajectory evaluation before committing to a path, recovering high-quality but low-probability reasoning chains that standard decoding overlooks. On GPQA, DF-Sample achieves 45.6% accuracy, surpassing power sampling (38.9%) and GRPO (39.9%), showing that a training-free method can outperform a trained one. Across three models and four benchmarks, DF-Sample consistently outperforms baselines, indicating substantial latent reasoning potential in pretrained base models.

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Multimodal AI, powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs), is transforming assistive technologies by enabling simultaneous processing of visual and textual data. This advancement holds significant promise for over 43 million visually impaired and neuro-divergent individuals worldwide who face persistent challenges in navigating indoor and outdoor environments due to limited spatial awareness and insufficient environmental cues. Existing navigation aids often lack comprehensive 3D scene understanding, relying on constrained route-based strategies that hinder user autonomy. In this paper, we introduce a novel end-to-end framework that integrates LLMs, VLMs and digital twin technologies to deliver a spatially cognitive navigation support for visually impaired and neuro-divergent users. Our system captures video input via standard mobile phone cameras, and employs SLAM3R to generate dense 3D point clouds from monocular RGB sequences in real-time. Our custom post-processing algorithm ensures accurate point cloud alignment across multiple viewpoints without requiring predefined reference points. This enhances the capabilities of SpatialLM to produce structured 3D representations, including architectural elements and oriented object bounding boxes. The enriched spatial data is then processed by a locally deployed LLM, which interprets 3D contexts to generate detailed scene descriptions and precise distance measurements between users and surrounding objects. We evaluated our approach across diverse video scenarios featuring various perspectives, looped walking views and captured in multiple environments. The evaluation results demonstrate consistent accuracy in 3D scene interpretation and object localisation, underscoring the potential of our system as a transformative assistive navigation solution that combines advanced visual perception with spatial reasoning

CanvasAnneal: Curriculum Reinforcement Learning for Diffusion Language Models

作者Blake Olson, Yuhang Song, Emmett McQuinn, Yuan Shangguan

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Diffusion Language Models (DLMs) offer promising parallel generation capabilities but lag behind autoregressive models in complex reasoning and tool-use tasks. While Reinforcement Learning (RL) has recently been applied to enhance DLMs, standard RL approaches suffer from an exploration bottleneck. To address this, we inject reasoning priors from a stronger teacher model to guide RL exploration. In this paper, we introduce CanvasAnneal, a curriculum-guided diffusion RL framework. During the initial RL phase, we warm-start exploration by injecting teacher-generated reasoning traces into the initial diffusion canvas. As training progresses, we gradually remove this guidance and require the model to generate more of the reasoning trajectory independently. Across mathematical reasoning and tool-use benchmarks, CanvasAnneal improves over standard diffu-GRPO on MATH500, Countdown, and Tau2 and substantially accelerates reward improvement on several tasks, while gains are task-dependent. Our results suggest that structured training-time guidance can alleviate exploration bottlenecks in diffusion RL and speed up convergence on harder tasks.

Distortion of AI Alignment Revisited: RLHF is a Decent Utilitarian Aligner

作者Kazusato Oko, Annie Ulichney, Nika Haghtalab, Han Bao

展开完整摘要收起摘要

While Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) is the standard paradigm for aligning large language models with human preferences, its effectiveness in pluralistic settings has been called into question. Notably, recent work by Gölz et al. (2025) demonstrated that the distortion — defined as the multiplicative gap between the average user utility of the RLHF policy and the optimal average utility — can scale exponentially with the Bradley-Terry temperature parameter $β$ when users have heterogeneous preferences. In this work, we present a fine-grained analysis of the distortion of RLHF with reward clipping and demonstrate that such exponential degradation is not a fundamental property of the algorithm but rather a consequence of distribution mismatch between the distribution generating preference data ($μ$) and the KL reference policy ($π_{\mathrm{ref}}$). To this end, we establish tight upper and lower bounds on the distortion of RLHF across multiple regimes of the KL regularization strength. We show that in a representative regime, under the Bradley-Terry model, the distortion is $\tildeΘ(βB + β)$, where $B$ is an upper bound on the log density ratio between $μ$ and $π_{\mathrm{ref}}$. In particular, when there is no distribution mismatch (i.e., $μ= π_{\mathrm{ref}}$), RLHF achieves the optimal distortion of $O(β)$ up to a constant. Our results suggest that, to reasonably maximize average utility with RLHF, it is preferable to use on-policy sampled preference data or to fine-tune before RLHF on data from a source close to $μ$.

Direct Preference Density Alignment for Conversational Audio Equalization

作者Ioannis Stylianou, Sven Ewan Shepstone, Jon Francombe, Pablo Martinez Nuevo, Zheng-Hua Tan

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Large Language Model alignment typically relies on learned proxy reward models, which significantly increase the memory footprint during training and are notoriously prone to instability and reward hacking. While offline methods like Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) bypass the reward model, they lose the ability to perform online exploration. If no optimization constraints are applied, this can lead to format collapse in bounded, continuous spaces. To resolve this, we propose Direct Preference Density Alignment: An alternative framework that removes the need for a learned proxy reward model while strictly preserving the benefits of online reinforcement learning. We leverage large-scale user data (approximately 90,000 samples) to construct non-parametric preference density maps, establishing an empirical reward surface. In addition to removing the reward model, Direct Preference Density Alignment enables the combination of the online structural grounding of Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) with the targeted offline refinement of DPO. We show that this GRPO+DPO combination achieves the highest performance, and in a blind audio equalization listening test, enables a 1.5B-parameter model to achieve perceptual parity with a carefully prompt-engineered GPT-4o mini baseline, using only a fraction of the inference compute.

SCOPE-OPSD: Fisher-Conditioned Privileged Subspaces for On-Policy Self-Distillation

作者Yunmeng Chen, Kunyu Wang, Peihan Li, Yi Wang, Shuyin Xia, Yi Liu, Xinyong Cheng, Dehui Wang, Xiangyong Zhai, Yanxing Liu, Song Liu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

On-policy self-distillation (OPSD) scores student-generated prefixes with a solution-conditioned self-teacher, yet transfers supervision only through next-token probabilities. We ask whether the aligned final-layer discrepancy offers a useful second channel, and how to test that channel without confusing its geometry with auxiliary strength. SCOPE-OPSD projects the privileged teacher-student residual onto a frozen rank-64 factor estimated from residual covariance and language-model-head Fisher sensitivity. It reuses the forwards already required by OPSD and adds neither rollouts nor inference-time modules. A matched Random control preserves the structured factor's rank and nonzero spectrum and uses per-arm gradient-RMS calibration, isolating the effect of the data-dependent orientation. Across the complete 25/50/75/100-step trajectories for Qwen3-1.7B, 4B, and 8B, Structured is never below Pure OPSD, with strict gains in 11 of the 12 model-checkpoint combinations and an exact tie at 4B step 25. Structured also exceeds matched Random in 10 of the 12 combinations. At step 75 on Qwen3-1.7B, Structured exceeds matched Random by 1.39 Macro Avg@12 points in each of two independent training reruns. A cross-fitted diagnostic also shows 4.40 times greater held-out privileged-gap capture than the matched random orientation. The results support a compact, Fisher-conditioned privileged subspace for short-budget OPSD.

VideoTok4D: A 4D-Aware Video Tokenizer for Compact World Representation

作者Xinyi Chen, Hanxin Zhu, Xijun Wang, Xingrui Wang, Sen Liang, Xin Li, Zhibo Chen

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Video tokenizers have emerged as a cornerstone of modern video modeling, underpinning progress in compression, reconstruction and generation by mapping high-dimensional visual signals into compact latent spaces. However, despite this progress, current tokenization paradigms largely remain within the 2D visual domain, treating videos as image sequences rather than observations of an underlying dynamic 3D world. Consequently, the learned tokens inherit this observation-centric bias, limiting their capacity to compactly represent real-world 4D scenes. To mitigate this issue, we propose VideoTok4D, a novel 4D-aware video tokenizer for compact world representation. Specifically, our approach comprises three key designs: 1) a spatiotemporal disentanglement strategy that factorizes videos into static and dynamic tokens for holistic world modeling; 2) a track-aware dynamic attention mechanism that aggregates trajectory-aligned cues to promote cross-view motion consistency; and 3) Co4DGen, a diffusion prior learned over the resulting VideoTok4D token space for efficient 4D scene generation. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance while requiring up to 4 orders of magnitude less storage than dense 4D representations. Moreover, the compact token space substantially shortens diffusion sequences, enabling efficient generation.

SNAP3D: Physically Grounded 3D Parts for Assembly from a Single Image

作者Yu-Rou Tuan, Hao-Tang Tsui, Nicolas Ugrinovic, Kris Kitani, Xiaoxuan Ma

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Part-aware 3D asset generation enables applications such as editing, articulation, simulation, and fabrication, yet existing methods can generate visually complete individual parts without ensuring that they form a valid physical assembly. Consequently, generated neighboring parts may interpenetrate, lack valid connections, or collapse under gravity. We propose a physics-guided framework for improving single-image part-aware 3D generation with physically compatible geometry and stable connections. Our method resolves inter-part penetration, recovers a contact graph between neighboring parts, and introduces parameterized connectors at their contact surfaces. Using feedback from physical simulation, we refine connector placement, orientation, and dimensions to improve assembly stability while preserving the generated geometry. We further introduce a physics-based evaluation protocol that complements conventional geometric metrics by directly testing assembly validity and stability under gravity. Experiments comparing against multiple part-aware 3D generators show substantial improvements in physical realizability and stability while maintaining geometric quality. We additionally validate the resulting parts through 3D printing and real-world assembly.

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Personalized marketing traditionally matches static products to customers, while dynamic creative optimization focuses mainly on AI-driven text personalization or basic product image modifications. We address this gap by developing and implementing an AI-based framework that generates personalized advertising imagery directly from customer data. We evaluate this framework in a two-stage within-subject study with N=100 participants across four products and three levels of personalization, varied by the amount and specificity of customer data used. Participants rated each image on attitude toward the advertisement, attitude toward the product, and purchase intention. Results show that participants perceive differences across personalization levels and evaluate AI-generated advertising imagery most positively at a moderate level of personalization. High personalization increases perceived personalization, which is positively associated with all three outcome measures, but also increases perceived creepiness, which is negatively associated with the outcomes and dominates the total effect.

DWMP: Leveraging Dual World Models for Humanoid Obstacle Traversal

作者Rongjun Jin, Jianming Ma, Yue Gao

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Humanoid robots must traverse cluttered obstacle fields using onboard proprioceptive and visual observations, yet existing methods usually process multimodal observations without explicitly considering their different characteristics: proprioceptive observations are low-dimensional but governed by highly nonlinear robot dynamics, while egocentric visual observations are high-dimensional, noisy, and redundant. We propose DWMP (Dual World Model Policy), a framework that provides the actor with separate but complementary world-model representations for humanoid obstacle traversal. A Koopman-based dynamics world model lifts proprioceptive observations into a latent space where their temporal evolution is approximately linear, making the dynamics features easier for the actor to learn from. An RSSM-based visual world model compresses egocentric depth observations into compact stochastic states while preserving obstacle-related geometry. The student policy receives the fused latent representation for action generation, combining linearized proprioceptive dynamics with compressed visual perception. Experiments in simulation and on a Unitree G1 humanoid robot show that DWMP improves obstacle traversal performance over baselines and supports real-world deployment under randomized obstacle layouts.

An End-to-End Automated Pipeline for Controllable Crack Data Synthesis

作者Conghui Li, Muxin Pu, Chern Hong Lim, Weiyao Lin, Xin Wang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Automated crack inspection increasingly relies on deep learning, yet its reliability is limited by scarce and weakly controllable defect data. Existing generative augmentation methods often treat crack synthesis as a generic image-generation task, offering insufficient control over morphology, boundary fidelity, and scene context. This paper proposes an end-to-end automated pipeline for controllable crack data synthesis that formalizes crack geometry and inspection context into reusable computational constraints. First, procedurally sampled Bézier-curve skeletons are translated into realistic crack masks using a GAN, enabling scalable generation of diverse crack morphologies without manual mask design. Second, a dual-ControlNet diffusion framework disentangles appearance guidance from geometric guidance, with an edge-based branch enforcing strict boundary consistency. The framework supports both background-free synthesis and context-aware inpainting. Experiments on CRACK500 and CrackTree200 show consistent gains over existing augmentation baselines, demonstrating a scalable engineering informatics workflow for automated crack-inspection data generation.

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Architectural design education relies heavily on visual ideation and representation to support collaborative learning in studio environments. Recent advances in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and extended reality (XR) offer new opportunities for rapid idea exploration and immersive spatial visualization. This exploratory mixed-methods classroom study investigated how GenAI-assisted multi-user XR influenced collaborative architectural conceptual design. We developed GenARch, a pipeline that integrates GenAI-based visual generation with collaborative XR environments, and deployed it in an undergraduate architectural design studio. Twenty-seven students formed seven self-selected design teams; four teams incorporated GenARch into their usual course workflow to support collaborative ideation and visualization, while three teams continued the same course workflow without GenARch. Pre- and post-intervention surveys assessed design self-efficacy, attitudes toward collaborative learning, and teamwork; a seven-member panel evaluated team design presentations; and GenARch teams participated in group interviews. The quantitative results showed larger relative declines in confidence and outcome expectancy for the GenARch condition and a positive difference-in-differences estimate for perceived conflict management, while panel-rated presentation outcomes were not significantly different between conditions. Interviews indicated complementary roles for the technologies: GenAI supported idea externalization and visual reference generation, whereas XR supported spatial, contextual, and scale-based evaluation. Students also reported challenges related to control, dimensional fidelity, shared attention, and motion comfort. These findings highlight both opportunities and limitations when GenAI and XR are incorporated into collaborative design education.

Semantically Aligned Gradient-Driven Context-Preserving Image Editing

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Instruction-guided image editing has a training-time blind spot. Generative editors are never required to semantically verify whether their outputs actually satisfy the instruction. Supervision stops at reconstruction and input textual-level conditioning. This produces incomplete edits, spatial spillover, and poor localization. We present IABEdit, a model-agnostic framework that embeds differentiable semantic verification into training. A frozen vision-language model extracts spatially-aware descriptors from the ground-truth edit. A trainable aligner then reproduces them from the generated output. The residual between the two becomes a gradient that teaches the generator both what to edit and where, with no inference-time VLM cost. IABEdit is compatible with diverse backbones, including U-Net (Stable Diffusion) and MMDiT (FLUX), without altering their inference pipelines. On MagicBrush, it improves structural fidelity by +3.49 DINO-I over the best diffusion baseline and +1.26 over the best overall baseline, while remaining competitive on instruction alignment. It also achieves state-of-the-art instruction adherence performance on RealEdit and EMU Edit benchmarks based on embedding-based metrics. Most consequentially, on the D-LORD surveillance benchmark, it surpasses the proprietary Gemini agent by +5.13 DINO-P under heavy occlusion, where preserving identity is hardest. This shows that gradient-aligned VLM distillation holds up under real-world-like surveillance and occlusion conditions. Human and GPT-4o evaluations confirm perceptually precise, well-localized edits.

UFO: Chain-of-Evaluation for Omni-Condition Alignment in Multi-Modal Image Generation

作者Danning Zhang, Yijing Lin, Shuhan Zhuang, Mengqi Huang, Shaojin Wu, Shancheng Fang, Zhendong Mao

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Multi-modal image generation, particularly subject-driven customization, has garnered growing attention in recent years. Despite the rapid advancement of generative models, their evaluation remains largely lagging. Existing methods, whether embedding-based or Multi-modal Large Language Model (MLLM)-based, evaluate alignment with each modal condition in isolation, which contradicts the simultaneous condition alignment objective of multi-modal image generation, leading to poor consistency with human judgments. To address this challenge, we propose UFO, the first unified framework for omni-condition alignment simultaneous evaluation. Specifically, UFO introduces a novel Atomized Chain-of-Evaluation paradigm, i.e., it first decomposes omni-condition alignment into a sequential chain of fine-grained, disentangled Atomic Evaluation Units (AEUs), categorizes them into distinct modality-relevance classes, and then employs general or dedicated functional calls for accurate verification of different AEU types. Experimental results demonstrate that UFO achieves the highest correlation with human evaluation preferences, delivering an average improvement of 15.25%. Furthermore, we present UFO-Bench, a dedicated benchmark designed to holistically evaluate the performance of existing customization models under the diverse mutual interactions of textual and visual conditions.

I Am AdMan: A Pipeline for Automatic Generation of Personalized Advertising Imagery

作者Victor Kolominsky-Rabas, Leopold Müller, Claudius Budcke, Niklas Kühl

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Personalized marketing can increase customer engagement, satisfaction, and conversion. While existing personalization approaches have become effective at matching the right product to the right customer, the visual representation of advertisements remains generic and only weakly tailored to the individual. Prior research shows that generative artificial intelligence can improve the creation of personalized advertisements, particularly for text, and that image generation models can support scalable advertisement production. However, little research has examined how detailed customer information can be systematically translated into fully AI-generated, personalized advertising imagery at scale on a technical level. To address this gap, we propose AdMan, a multi-agent pipeline that transforms customer data into personas, generates personalized advertisement images conditioned on product reference images, and applies an LLM-based judge agent for automated quality control. We implement the pipeline with two different model configurations and evaluate it across four products, using six celebrity personas for qualitative inspection, and 100 real customer profiles, producing 1745 advertisements. The evaluation combines a qualitative expert focus group and a quantitative artifact-rate assessment. The results show that the pipeline can generate photorealistic and personalized advertisements. At the same time, performance varies substantially by product complexity and model configuration. Our findings extend the literature on AI-based personalized advertising by demonstrating the feasibility and current limitations of fully automated image generation for advertising.

Balancing Emotional Alignment and Semantic Consistency in Image Generation via Reinforcement Learning with Valence-Arousal Anchoring

作者Jisheng Dang, Zhenxuan Wang, Bin Li, Ronghao Lin, Bin Hu, Tat-Seng Chua

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Continuous emotion control in text-to-image generation requires a model to improve affective alignment without changing the objects, layout, or scene described by the prompt. Existing supervised emotion-injection methods often optimize feature-space proxies and may therefore exhibit emotion-semantic drift, in which stronger emotional conditioning is accompanied by unintended content changes. We address this problem with a flow-matching image-generation framework that combines continuous valence-arousal (VA) conditioning, Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO), and a neutral semantic anchor. The deterministic probability-flow ODE is converted into a marginal-preserving SDE, yielding non-degenerate transition densities for trajectory sampling and policy-ratio estimation. A frozen CLIP-based VA regressor supplies a terminal reward measuring the distance between the predicted and target VA coordinates, while an image generated from the same prompt under zero VA conditioning provides a feature-space reference for semantic preservation. A reduced denoising schedule is used for online RL sampling, whereas the original schedule is retained at inference. Experiments on 3,300 prompt-emotion combinations show substantially lower valence and arousal errors than the VA-conditioned baseline and an improved CLIPScore relative to EmotiCrafter, with a measurable trade-off in reference-free image quality. The results support anchor-regularized Flow-GRPO as a practical approach to balancing emotional alignment and semantic consistency in continuous-affect image synthesis.
