Discrete Beckmann Transport Models for One-Step Language Modeling and Reasoning

作者Sophia Tang, Shiyi Wang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Discrete diffusion and flow models are a promising alternative to autoregressive language models, but compressing many-step sampling into fewer steps typically requires distilling a pretrained teacher model. This caps the student at the teacher's quality and requires a costly two-stage training pipeline. We introduce Discrete Beckmann Transport Models (DBTM), built on a time-independent flow whose autonomous transport map provably carries any point in the ambient space to a fixed point on the vertices of the simplex in a single step. We show that this fixed-point property is characterized by a conservation equation whose residual can be minimized directly from data, removing the requirement for a teacher flow and time conditioning. Under this construction, a partially trained map corresponds to the flow truncated at finite time, so generation reduces to iterating one map until it reaches a fixed point. We further extend the map to a partial-context interpolant where additional function evaluations act as refinement steps rather than ODE integration steps. On language modeling and reasoning tasks, DBTM enables one- and few-step generation that improves quality and accuracy over discrete diffusion and continuous flow baselines.

Rethinking Streaming Video Diffusion Model: Context, Execution, and Training

作者Hongchen Zhang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Understanding the design space of streaming video diffusion is essential to exploring its potential for generation quality and computational efficiency. We develop a unified analytical framework that relates model and sampler choices, historical conditioning, execution scheduling, and training strategies. The framework accommodates a broad family of causal context-selection policies and makes their computational dependencies and training-inference alignment explicit. Within this design space, we study three representative policies: clean, same-level, and progressive history. On the full VBench prompt set, same-level and progressive history achieve aggregate scores of 85.24 and 85.60, respectively, compared with 84.45 for the clean-history reference. Long-video comparisons further show improved subject consistency and more coherent motion with progressive history. By allowing multiple denoising nodes to be processed together, progressive-history pipelining achieves $1.57$-$2.83\times$ steady-state DiT speedups under our evaluated conditions. We additionally find that LoRA adaptation of the DMD fake-score network improves generation quality using only 2.15% as many trainable fake-score parameters as full-parameter adaptation. Together, these findings show that fully denoised history is not a prerequisite for high-quality streaming generation and motivate the joint design of historical conditioning, execution, and training.

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Multi-shell diffusion MRI (dMRI) unlocks more expressive microstructural modeling than single-shell scans, yet its longer acquisition time hinders deployment in large-scale cohorts and time-constrained clinical settings. Synthesizing an unobserved shell from a single-shell input is fundamentally ill-posed and further complicated by protocol mismatch, where source and target gradient direction sets may not align. We propose DTI-SHNet, a single-to-multi-shell synthesis framework that operates in the real symmetric spherical harmonics (SH) coefficient domain and performs spatially aware volumetric regression. Given a source shell, we estimate diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and use direction-agnostic parametric maps along with a brain mask as conditioning priors to guide a 3D U-Net regressor from source-shell to target-shell SH coefficients. To couple coefficient accuracy with signal fidelity, we introduce a signal consistency regularization that reconstructs signals on randomly sampled canonical directions from predicted coefficients and enforces agreement in the signal domain. Experiments on UK Biobank and Cam-CAN data for b=1000 to b=2000 dMRI synthesis show that DTI-SHNet achieves competitive visual quality compared to advanced methods, while better preserving downstream diffusion measures. Optimizing Sparse Outcomes Through Dense Behavioral Signals via Value-Guided Preference Distillation

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Aligning multi-turn dialogue agents is usually framed as matching turn-level human preferences, yet direct optimization of long-term outcomes is often ineffective and prone to reward hacking. We formulate long-horizon dialogue optimization as a multi-objective reinforcement learning problem and train a multi-head value model that predicts a vector of observed user behaviors across multiple look-ahead horizons. Our findings demonstrate that a scalarized composite of dense auxiliary behavioral signals enables effective credit assignment and optimization of sparse outcomes. However, optimizing unconstrained single-objective proxies might induce policy degradations that are harmful when the agent is exposed to real users. To identify these failure modes prior to deployment, we establish a safety framework combining counterfactual user simulation with a validated dialogue-level outcome model to evaluate preference weightings and policy optimization methods. Finally, we demonstrate that distilling multi-objective value preferences into the policy via reference-anchored preference optimization matches on-policy online RL at a small fraction of its compute budget. Live A/B testing confirms that our distilled policy significantly improves long-term user retention, while simultaneously enhancing the positive behaviors and therapeutic-process markers.

Symmetries and Singularities

作者Vishnu Varadarajan, Mihir More, Aritra Das, Debayan Gupta

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Deep neural networks are highly over-parameterized, and different parameter values represent the same predictive function. This makes their effective complexity difficult to measure using only the number of parameters or the rank of the Hessian. Singular Learning Theory addresses this issue through the local learning coefficient (LLC), which characterizes the effective complexity of a model near a given solution. Existing methods for estimating the LLC often rely on posterior sampling, which can be computationally expensive for large neural networks. This makes accurate LLC estimation difficult at scale. In this work, we use known structures in the model to simplify the analysis and make LLC estimation more tractable. Specifically, we study the LLC of a graph attention model by exploiting symmetries in both the graph structure and the attention parameters. An analytic framework through a teacher--student setting, and explicit LLC estimates after considering the symmetry--induced degeneracies are developed.

Know When to Stop, Where to Restart: Accelerating Multi-Turn Agentic On-Policy Distillation

作者Zhiyu Gui, Kexin Huang, Jia Guo, Junkang Wu, Zihao Wang, Zhiqiang Zhang, Jun Zhou, Jiancan Wu, Xiang Wang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

On-policy distillation (OPD) has become a standard approach for transferring capabilities from large teachers to compact students. Its cost, however, is dominated by autoregressive student rollouts and scales poorly in multi-turn agentic settings. Existing acceleration methods truncate or relocate the supervision signal according to fixed, offline budgets, despite substantial variation in teacher-signal reliability both within and across trajectories. Our empirical analysis on $τ^2$-bench reveals a clear structure in this variation: informative supervision is concentrated in the prefix of each turn, and, most importantly for multi-turn agentic training, the cross-turn loss of teacher endorsement is temporally locked to the student's first erroneous action rather than accumulating gradually over turns. Building on these findings, we propose STRIDE (Stop-and-Restart on-policy Distillation acceleration), which combines two complementary techniques: adaptive early stopping, which terminates a rollout once the cumulative teacher log-probability falls below an out-of-distribution threshold, and a prefix buffer, which caches high-quality prefixes and restarts generation at the weakest correct turn. Together, these mechanisms induce a data-driven curriculum that progressively extends coverage to later turns. On $τ^2$-bench retail, our method matches full-trajectory OPD and exceeds the 30B teacher at a $3.73\times$ speedup, surpasses the baseline itself at $2.34\times$, and retains a $4.51\times$ speedup under cross-domain multi-teacher training. As a supplementary generalization test beyond the agentic setting, STRIDE outperforms full OPD on AIME 2025 at a $5.10\times$ speedup and on AIME 2024 at a $3.08\times$ speedup; averaged across the two evaluations, both fixed-budget truncation baselines remain below full OPD.

CrossDistill: Balancing Quality and Diversity via Trajectory-Level Hybrid Few-Step Distillation

作者Yuxi Liu, Haoyu Li, Yixiang Cai, Tengxu Sun, Zekun Zhang, Baole Ai, Ang Wang, Jiamang Wang, Lin Qu, Kun Yuan, Kai Zhang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Few-step distillation accelerates diffusion models but must balance diversity and fidelity: trajectory-based distillation preserves mode coverage, while distribution matching sharpens samples but can reduce diversity. We show that this tension can be exploited in a noise-regime-dependent way: high-noise steps largely determine global modes, whereas low-noise steps refine local details. We propose CrossDistill, a trajectory-level hybrid distillation framework that splits the sampling trajectory at a crossover point, applies a trajectory-preserving objective on the high-noise interval and a distribution-matching objective on the low-noise interval, and couples the two stages through the crossover state. In contrast to loss-level mixing, and complementarily to training-time two-stage recipes, CrossDistill explicitly assigns complementary objectives along the noise axis, so that global branching is preserved before local statistics are sharpened. CrossDistill is a noise-level scheduling policy: PCM and DMD are plug-in instantiations, while the noise partition, crossover coupling, and objective ordering are the key design elements. Experiments on text-to-video diffusion models and qualitative image-to-video results show that CrossDistill expands the few-step quality-diversity frontier, retaining seed-level variation while achieving competitive visual fidelity.

A Low-Latency Interactive System for Real-Time Video Understanding Based on VLMs

作者Punan Dai, Jun Xu, Bingcong Lu, Zhengxue Cheng, Hongwei Hu, Ronghua Wu, Li Song

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Vision-language models are extending video understanding from offline clip analysis to continuous interactive streaming, but most research still emphasizes model capability rather than deployable low-latency interaction. This paper presents a unified edge-cloud system for real-time video VLM applications. Lightweight phone, smart glasses, PC, and pseudo-replay clients publish video and speech to a server runtime that provides shared ASR/TTS, session orchestration, backend adaptation, response delivery, and archive-backed measurement. The system integrates six representative video VLM backends with streaming or interaction-oriented capabilities and evaluates them across backend runtime, media transport, client-observed latency, and interaction behavior. With suitable backend selection and the WebRTC path, the tested system reaches approximately 0.9 to 1.0 s to first VLM text and 1.3 to 1.5 s to first non-silent TTS audio, while exposing backend adaptation costs and differences in real-time interaction behavior.

Degraded but Not Entirely Ineffective: PE-Based Deformable Graph Neural Networks

作者Jinhua Wu, Xinliang Zhang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Many real-world scenarios can be represented using graph-structured data. However, traditional GNNs that transmit messages based on first-order neighbors have long faced several fundamental contradictions: increasing depth leads to over-smoothing, long-range dependencies cause over-compression, fixed neighborhoods restrict the receptive field, and on heterophilous graphs, topological neighbors become a source of noise. Although many works have addressed these issues individually, few mechanisms can simultaneously alleviate all of these challenges. To address the aforementioned problems, we propose a Position Encoding-Based Deformable Spatial Aggregation Module (PEBDSAM) that solves them all in one step. Specifically, we utilize a deformable mechanism in the position space to identify relevant nodes to supplement the original first-order neighbor information of GNNs, allowing traditional GNNs to adapt to heterophilous scenarios. Through diagnostic experiments, we obtained several major findings: current offsets fail to have any effect; subsequently, we analyzed the causes of offset failure and why model performance still improves even after offset failure, pointing out future research directions. Based on these diagnostic experiments, we streamlined the original PEBDSAM, resulting in a simplified version, which we call the Position Encoding-Based Spatial Aggregation Module (PEBSAM). In addition, we propose a PEBSAM-Speed to adapt to large datasets. Finally, we designed the module to be plug-and-play and applied it to GCN, GAT, GIN, and GraphSAGE, achieving desirable results on three homophilous datasets and six heterophilous graph datasets.

Deformable 2D Gaussian Splatting for Efficient 4K Video Compression

作者Chenhao Zhang, Fengqing Zhu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) video presents significant challenges for efficient storage and real-time decoding. Learning-based methods, such as Neural Video Compression (NVC) and Implicit Neural Representations (INR), achieve competitive rate-distortion performance but suffer from high decoding latency and excessive memory usage. Meanwhile, Gaussian Splatting has recently attracted attention in the computer graphics community due to its ultra-fast rendering and high-fidelity visual quality. Despite these advantages, its application in video compression remains largely unexplored. To bridge this gap, we propose a real-time video compression framework that represents and compresses a Group of Pictures (GOP) using a coarse-to-fine multi-scale 2D Gaussian Splatting (2DGS) structure coupled with a lightweight deformation network. Experiments demonstrate that our method delivers rate-distortion performance in LPIPS that surpasses H.265 and other state-of-the-art learning-based video compression methods. Our work demonstrates the potential of Gaussian Splatting as a practical solution for efficient high-resolution video compression.

Training Specialist Models without Reasoning Trajectories for Domain Expert Distillation

作者Yilei Tu, Zihao Li, Shaoxiong Ji, Jörg Tiedemann, Fei Yuan

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Specialist distillation effectively transfers domain expertise to student models via teacher-generated reasoning trajectories. However, when these specialists are trained solely on question--answer pairs without explicit reasoning supervision, what governs the trajectories they generate? In this work, we show that specialist optimization implicitly selects from this latent trajectory space. To isolate and observe this latent distribution, we leverage student distillation not as a downstream goal, but as an agnostic probe---since students inherit no parameterization or optimization constraints from the specialist, inheriting only the sampled trajectories themselves. Through this probe, our empirical analysis unveils a tight governing relationship: across 27 specialist--student pairings, their specialization--generalization profiles correlate exceptionally strongly. Crucially, explicitly controlling the specialist's distributional drift systematically shifts both the teacher and its distilled student along a controllable trade-off between domain precision and general-capability retention. Across chemistry, physics, and multilingual settings, distilled students systematically reflect these specialist-induced profiles, even across divergent model families. Our findings establish a new view of specialist training: when gold reasoning is absent, tuning choices directly control the latent supervision passed to downstream models.

BLInD: Learning Driver Intent as a Distribution over Future Ego Trajectories

作者Flavian Pegado, Ronit Hire, Shreyas Rajesh, Soham Phade

展开完整摘要收起摘要

We present BLInD (Blind Learned Intent Distribution), a compact network that maps recent vehicle-state history (e.g. speed, curvature, indicator, and vehicle type) to a top-k distribution of future ego trajectories, with no camera, LiDAR, map, or object-track inputs. We find that vehiclestate history alone is sufficient to learn a useful multimodal distribution over near-term ego trajectories, and its low-latency nature makes it well-suited for safety-critical deployment. We investigate two distribution architectures, autoregressive (AR) and flow-matching, and train on both mixed-platform opensource and Wayve datasets. Both generalize without datasetspecific adaptation; the flow-matching model achieves best topk ADE/FDE of 0.15/0.37 m on Wayve, 0.15/0.36 m on Waymo, and 0.28/0.59 m on nuScenes, with the AR model reaching comparable coverage. Integrating the distributions into an AEB trigger task, a strict all-candidates policy reduces false positives from 1.51% to 0.11% with AR (13.7x reduction, 94.9% TP) and to 0.06% with flow-matching (25.1x reduction, 98.7% TP) compared to a 1-CTRV policy with 100% true positive score. BLInD runs in 0.87 ms with the AR head and 2.9 ms with the flow-matching head on an NVIDIA DRIVE Orin ECU making it compatible with real-time deployment on automotive ECUs. While existing learned distribution models rely on scene context and blind vehicle-state models typically collapse to a single path, BLInD is learned, blind, and cross-domain simultaneously, a combination not demonstrated by prior work. These results show that such a distribution provides a controllable and plausible intent sampling interface for downstream systems, with AEB as one instantiation.

DiTAR+: Dual Optimization for Robust Autoregressive Diffusion Speech Synthesis

作者Ziyu Zhang, Tianlun Zuo, Hanzhao Li, Haoyu Zhang, Lei Xie

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Continuous-latent Autoregressive Diffusion Transformer (AR-DiT) models have demonstrated immense potential in zero-shot speech generation. However, they still suffer from limited decoding stability when synthesizing long utterances or complex linguistic structures. This instability primarily stems from a restricted historical receptive field and an acoustic inertia dependency within the diffusion decoder, which causes the model to ignore semantic conditions. To address these challenges, we propose DiTAR+, a dual-optimization framework. First, we introduce Dilated Context Sampling to expand the macro-level historical receptive field without violating physical temporal continuity, thereby preventing cumulative error propagation. Second, we propose Hierarchical Acoustic Masking to prevent shallow layers from attending to acoustic pre-context, explicitly decoupling semantic alignment from acoustic detail reconstruction. Extensive experiments show that our framework effectively mitigates pronunciation errors and semantic hallucinations, enhances generation robustness on challenging sentences, and maintains exceptionally high speaker similarity throughout the entirety of long-form utterances. On the linguistically challenging ZH-Hard set, DiTAR+ reduces the word error rate from 12.478% to 9.893%, and on extended utterances of 25 to 35 seconds it improves speaker similarity from 0.741 to 0.759 while simultaneously lowering the word error rate from 2.778% to 2.173%, outperforming both discrete-token and pure flow-matching baselines.

CyFM: Cylindrical Optimal Transport for Few-Step Complex-Valued Flow Matching

作者Marcel Musiałek, Iga Wolanin, Damian Ryczko, Anna Grelewska, Oleksii Furman

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Complex-valued signals, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and audio spectrograms, are almost always modelled as flat two-channel Euclidean data. For nonzero values the amplitude-phase chart $z \mapsto (|z|, z/|z|)$ identifies the signal domain with the cylinder $(0, \infty) \times S^1$, on which we deliberately replace the inherited metric $dA^2 + A^2 dθ^2$ by the decoupled product metric $dA^2 + dθ^2$. In this empirical study we measure what that substitution costs and what it buys. By computing exact analytical bridges, we demonstrate that Cartesian paths induce a heavy-tailed distribution of angular velocity (power law index $\approx 1.0$), with nearly half of the probability paths exceeding an angular speed of $π$ under independent coupling, a rate no cylindrical path ever exceeds. To resolve this, we analyze Cylindrical Flow Matching (CyFM), which strictly bounds the regression target, and couple noise and data by exact minibatch Optimal Transport computed jointly over whole fields in the cylindrical metric. Although the transport-cost reduction of this coupling collapses with field dimension (from 86% for scalar pairs to 3% for $64\times64$ fields), its benefit to few-step generation does not: it lowers the few-step error of the cylindrical model by 3-60% at every evaluated resolution. With this coupling, CyFM has a lower error than the best Cartesian baseline at every step count up to $k = 8$ and every evaluated resolution, with all five seeds separated and without distillation, and at convergence we detect no significant difference between the two geometries. Finally, we expose the "Factorized Coupling Trap," showing that dimension-wise or patch-wise transport factorizations silently destroy the joint distribution of the data. All experiments are on synthetic complex fields.

SCOPE-OPSD: Fisher-Conditioned Privileged Subspaces for On-Policy Self-Distillation

作者Yunmeng Chen, Kunyu Wang, Peihan Li, Yi Wang, Shuyin Xia, Yi Liu, Xinyong Cheng, Dehui Wang, Xiangyong Zhai, Yanxing Liu, Song Liu

展开完整摘要收起摘要

On-policy self-distillation (OPSD) scores student-generated prefixes with a solution-conditioned self-teacher, yet transfers supervision only through next-token probabilities. We ask whether the aligned final-layer discrepancy offers a useful second channel, and how to test that channel without confusing its geometry with auxiliary strength. SCOPE-OPSD projects the privileged teacher-student residual onto a frozen rank-64 factor estimated from residual covariance and language-model-head Fisher sensitivity. It reuses the forwards already required by OPSD and adds neither rollouts nor inference-time modules. A matched Random control preserves the structured factor's rank and nonzero spectrum and uses per-arm gradient-RMS calibration, isolating the effect of the data-dependent orientation. Across the complete 25/50/75/100-step trajectories for Qwen3-1.7B, 4B, and 8B, Structured is never below Pure OPSD, with strict gains in 11 of the 12 model-checkpoint combinations and an exact tie at 4B step 25. Structured also exceeds matched Random in 10 of the 12 combinations. At step 75 on Qwen3-1.7B, Structured exceeds matched Random by 1.39 Macro Avg@12 points in each of two independent training reruns. A cross-fitted diagnostic also shows 4.40 times greater held-out privileged-gap capture than the matched random orientation. The results support a compact, Fisher-conditioned privileged subspace for short-budget OPSD.

VideoTok4D: A 4D-Aware Video Tokenizer for Compact World Representation

作者Xinyi Chen, Hanxin Zhu, Xijun Wang, Xingrui Wang, Sen Liang, Xin Li, Zhibo Chen

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Video tokenizers have emerged as a cornerstone of modern video modeling, underpinning progress in compression, reconstruction and generation by mapping high-dimensional visual signals into compact latent spaces. However, despite this progress, current tokenization paradigms largely remain within the 2D visual domain, treating videos as image sequences rather than observations of an underlying dynamic 3D world. Consequently, the learned tokens inherit this observation-centric bias, limiting their capacity to compactly represent real-world 4D scenes. To mitigate this issue, we propose VideoTok4D, a novel 4D-aware video tokenizer for compact world representation. Specifically, our approach comprises three key designs: 1) a spatiotemporal disentanglement strategy that factorizes videos into static and dynamic tokens for holistic world modeling; 2) a track-aware dynamic attention mechanism that aggregates trajectory-aligned cues to promote cross-view motion consistency; and 3) Co4DGen, a diffusion prior learned over the resulting VideoTok4D token space for efficient 4D scene generation. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance while requiring up to 4 orders of magnitude less storage than dense 4D representations. Moreover, the compact token space substantially shortens diffusion sequences, enabling efficient generation.

Balancing Emotional Alignment and Semantic Consistency in Image Generation via Reinforcement Learning with Valence-Arousal Anchoring

作者Jisheng Dang, Zhenxuan Wang, Bin Li, Ronghao Lin, Bin Hu, Tat-Seng Chua

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Continuous emotion control in text-to-image generation requires a model to improve affective alignment without changing the objects, layout, or scene described by the prompt. Existing supervised emotion-injection methods often optimize feature-space proxies and may therefore exhibit emotion-semantic drift, in which stronger emotional conditioning is accompanied by unintended content changes. We address this problem with a flow-matching image-generation framework that combines continuous valence-arousal (VA) conditioning, Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO), and a neutral semantic anchor. The deterministic probability-flow ODE is converted into a marginal-preserving SDE, yielding non-degenerate transition densities for trajectory sampling and policy-ratio estimation. A frozen CLIP-based VA regressor supplies a terminal reward measuring the distance between the predicted and target VA coordinates, while an image generated from the same prompt under zero VA conditioning provides a feature-space reference for semantic preservation. A reduced denoising schedule is used for online RL sampling, whereas the original schedule is retained at inference. Experiments on 3,300 prompt-emotion combinations show substantially lower valence and arousal errors than the VA-conditioned baseline and an improved CLIPScore relative to EmotiCrafter, with a measurable trade-off in reference-free image quality. The results support anchor-regularized Flow-GRPO as a practical approach to balancing emotional alignment and semantic consistency in continuous-affect image synthesis.

Representation-based Masked Diffusion Model

作者Yangrong Hu, Ding Huang, Xueyu Zhou, Jian Huang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Masked Diffusion Models (MDMs) have emerged as a compelling paradigm for language modeling, offering the capability for efficient parallel text generation. However, existing parallel sampling methods typically update multiple masked tokens independently and ignore the complex mutual dependencies among the masked tokens. This independent updating mechanism lacks global coordination and might lead to incoherent outputs. To address this limitation, we propose Representation-based Masked Diffusion Model (RMDM), a framework that leverages the text representation to explicitly encode global semantics and help to parallel update tokens more precisely. Specifically, we first encode text into a continuous semantic space using a pretrained encoder and learn an invertible transformation that normalizes the representation distribution to a Gaussian prior, facilitating efficient sampling during generation. Conditioned on this latent semantic representation, we train a masked diffusion model to learn the conditional text distribution, where the representation serves as global semantic guidance to coordinate parallel token updates and faithfully approximate the target distribution. Empirical results demonstrate that RMDM significantly improves generation quality, particularly in aggressive few-step sampling regimes.

Fast and Faithful: Principled Conditional Flow Matching for Inverse Problems

作者Shirin Shoushtari, Edward P. Chandler, Xiao Shi, Ulugbek S. Kamilov

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Flow matching approaches to imaging inverse problems commonly incorporate measurements in two ways. Conditioning-based approaches supply measurement-derived information as a network input, often through concatenation, while inference-guided approaches combine an unconditional velocity field with a separate data-consistency update. In these common formulations, the forward model is not explicitly enforced within the learned conditional velocity field. We propose a principled parametrization of the measurement-conditional velocity field to solve inverse problems. Under linear interpolation, we express the conditional velocity $v(x_t,t,y)$ in terms of the posterior mean $E[x_1 | x_t,y]$, and characterize that mean as the unique minimizer of a variational objective whose data-consistency term is explicit. We further prove that the velocity field defines a probability flow from the source distribution to the measurement-conditioned posterior. Splitting the variational objective yields a conditional velocity parameterization with operator-dependent data-consistency updates, which we train end-to-end under the flow-matching objective, with no additional guidance at inference. Our method achieves state-of-the-art PSNR with $50\times$ fewer function evaluations than the strongest flow baseline. Varying the sampling steps provides test-time control over the distortion-perception trade-off without retraining.

Prototype Matters: Modality-unified Prototype Self-distillation for Unsupervised Visible-infrared Person Re-identification

作者Menglin Wang, Xiaojin Gong

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Estimating reliable cross-modality association is crucial to unsupervised visible-infrared person re-ID. While optimal transport is shown to be a practical solution for cross-modality association, it suffers from the rigidness of hard label assignment without considering the impact of cluster noise. Moreover, enforcing only cross-modality contrast is also suboptimal, as it fails to jointly optimize the similarity relation within and across modality. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for cross-modality learning by well exploitation of prototypes: First, instead of contrasting with cross-modality prototypes, we show that modality-unified prototypical contrast facilitates better modality invariance by jointly and simultaneously optimizing similarity relation within and across-modality. Taking self-prototype as a steady teacher, we further refine the instance-prototype online relation through prototype-guided self-distillation. The two components are optimized in a unified framework, leading to a simple yet effective model. On standard VI-ReID benchmarks, we perform extensive comparison and analysis, validating the effectiveness of our proposed method. Code is available at: https://github.com/Terminator8758/PoSeD.

KuaiRP Series Role-playing Models Technical Report

作者Yipeng Wang, Ziwei Zhang, Jiahui Zhang, Qi Gan, Kai Sheng

展开完整摘要收起摘要

This paper introduces the complete technical solution for the KuaiRP series of role-playing models. We aim to achieve four core objectives for a dedicated role-playing model: simplified prompt engineering, highly stable output quality, built-in domain world knowledge, and high-efficiency deployment with a small parameter size. However, effectively injecting deep domain knowledge often leads to a severe catastrophic forgetting of the model's general agent capabilities. To overcome this trade-off, we propose a multi-stage training pipeline. First, we design a standardized character template and construct an SFT data pipeline based on user behavior simulation and reverse profile filtering. Next, we utilize a rule-based composite reward function during the Reinforcement Learning (RL) phase to eliminate common degradation phenomena like length expansion and repetitive generation. Finally, to recover the general capabilities compromised during SFT and RL, we propose a novel self-distillation paradigm using Two-stage On-Policy Distillation (OPD) equipped with Cumulative-Divergence Decay (CDD). By using the domain-adapted model as the teacher and the original base model as the student, we effectively balance deep domain knowledge injection with the preservation of general agent capabilities. Experimental results demonstrate that the KuaiRP models not only match the current state-of-the-art proprietary models in role-playing fidelity within our target domains, but also successfully recover general agent capabilities, maintaining extremely low deployment costs.

Negative Self-Distillation: Learning to Reason by Avoiding Flaws

作者Rongcan Pei, Zhepei Wei, Shuyao Xu, Xinyu Zhu, Wei-Lin Chen, Yu Meng

展开完整摘要收起摘要

On-Policy Self-Distillation (OPSD) has emerged as a popular paradigm for large language model (LLM) self-improvement, allowing models to act as their own teachers by leveraging privileged information such as ground-truth solutions. However, recent findings indicate that OPSD can severely degrade the performance of LLMs on complex reasoning tasks: By forcing the student to imitate an artificially confident reasoning trace conditioned on privileged information, OPSD inadvertently suppresses expressions of uncertainty and penalizes the exploratory, self-corrective behaviors required to solve challenging problems. To address this, we introduce Negative Self-Distillation (NSD), a new framework that optimizes LLMs by diverging from flawed reasoning rather than imitating privileged solutions. Instead of relying on ground-truth answers or external supervision, NSD uses the model itself to generate a question-specific negative condition (eg, acting as a ``careless reasoner'') and pushes the student's distribution away from this self-generated negative teacher. Naively applying unlearning objectives to achieve this divergence is problematic, as flawed reasoning tokens are confounded with basic linguistic tokens; indiscriminately penalizing both risks catastrophically degrading the model's foundational language capabilities. We resolve this by designing a dynamic gating mechanism that automatically identifies and isolates reasoning-critical tokens, ensuring gradient updates target only behavioral flaws while preserving the model's linguistic priors. Empirically, NSD consistently outperforms OPSD and other label-free, self-bootstrapping reinforcement learning (RL) baselines.

Reducing audio-encoder depth lowers the inference cost of speech large language models, but removing complete blocks perturbs the embeddings consumed by the decoder and can cause deletion and premature end-of-sequence errors. We introduce X-AuT, a progressive framework that selects layer combinations through short behavioral probes and restores the pruned model through representation alignment, cross-scale distillation, scheduled student-policy supervision, and LoRA finetuning. The language-model backbone remains frozen, while attention LoRA adapters and the tied output embedding adapt during distillation. Training uses the highest-agreement tier from a transcript-consistency pipeline, followed by source reweighting during finetuning. On ten public Chinese--English benchmarks, compressing Qwen3-ASR-0.6B from 18 to 16 audio-encoder layers reduces macro-average error from 5.61% to 5.27%. The 14-layer model reaches 5.75% with 20.7% fewer audio-tower parameters. Under the matched recipe, the 1.7B teacher yields 5.55% mean error, compared with 8.45% for self-distillation, and progressive 18$\rightarrow$14 pruning outperforms direct pruning (5.75% vs. 6.73%). These single-run results establish two practical operating points and show that the accuracy effects vary across benchmarks. Project website: https://xpeng-ai.github.io/x-aut

Uncertainty DMD: Restoring Diversity in Few-Step Autoregressive Video Distillation

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Few-step distillation improves the efficiency of autoregressive (AR) video generation, but often causes diversity collapse: under the same prompt, different noise samples tend to produce highly similar videos with weakened motion dynamics. We analyze this degradation in Distribution Matching Distillation (DMD)-distilled AR video generators and find that, in the autoregressive setting, it takes the form of a structured uncertainty collapse: the mode-seeking bias of DMD maps different noise samples to nearly identical first chunks, and the deterministic AR cache then propagates this collapsed state to all subsequent chunks, turning a local loss of stochasticity at the rollout root into a global suppression of temporal variation. Based on this analysis, we propose Uncertainty DMD, a simple uncertainty-injection framework that restores stochasticity at two key stages of AR generation: a timestep perturbation for the first chunk to increase first-chunk diversity, and a stochastic cache-writing mechanism for later chunks to preserve uncertainty in autoregressive conditioning. The method requires no architectural changes and introduces only lightweight perturbation operations. The same perturbation mechanisms are used during both training and inference. Experiments show that Uncertainty DMD consistently improves diversity and motion dynamics while maintaining comparable per-sample visual quality.

We present Vidu S2, which comprises Vidu S2-Avatar, a real-time interactive digital-character model, and Vidu S2-Editing, a real-time video editing model. Moreover, we explore the feasibility of real-time spatial video generation for both Vidu S2-Avatar and Vidu S2-Editing. Compared with Vidu S1, Vidu S2-Avatar supports real-time 720p video generation, generation with dynamic references that can be updated at any moment, and stronger instruction following, such as dancing. Vidu S2-Editing supports editing a video stream in real time, including style rendering, clothing replacement, character replacement, and background replacement. Experiments show that Vidu S2 outperforms all baselines. A playable online demo is available at https://vidu.com/vidu-stream.

Semiparametric Inference for Conditional Shapley Feature Importance

作者Agostino Gnasso

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Shapley values are widely used for post-hoc feature attribution, but most estimators return point quantities and do not quantify uncertainty, and popular implementations sample out-of-coalition features from their marginal distribution, which misattributes importance when features are dependent. This paper studies the conditional formulation, in which out-of-coalition features are integrated out under their true conditional distribution. The target is a global, loss-based importance that pairs a conditional value function with a SAGE-style loss aggregation. We propose a one-step estimator with K-fold cross-fitting and a U-statistic correction of the squared loss that removes the Monte Carlo bias of the naive plug-in; it is $\sqrt{n}$-consistent and asymptotically normal under double-robust rate conditions, and the resulting Wald interval attains nominal coverage. A Pinsker-type bound quantifies the bias from misspecifying the working copula class, while vine copulas keep conditional sampling tractable. In a Gaussian design study with n= 500, the empirical coverage of the 95% interval lies between 0.91 and 0.96 across all features, the test holds its Type-I rate at 0.05, and it reaches power one for moderate signals. Applied to the UCI Concrete and California Housing data, the method identifies the conditionally informative features with Bonferroni-controlled significance.

Beyond Verified Answers: Solver-Informed Self-Distillation for Bootstrapping Operations Research Language Models

作者Rui Zhu, Minglong Cao, Chenyu Zhou, Jianghao Lin, Dongdong Ge

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Modern large language models (LLMs) can translate natural-language descriptions into operations research (OR) formulations. Post-training techniques including reinforcement learning and on-policy self-distillation have further improved this capability. However, three limitations remain in training LLMs for OR formulations. First, training commonly relies on synthetic formulations validated by human experts or stronger models, constraining scalable supervision. Second, credit assignment is either coarse or costly: outcome rewards score an entire trajectory without locating the responsible modeling decision, whereas process-level supervision requires an additional evaluator. Third, privileged self-distillation can induce style mismatch by using solver context unavailable at deployment. We find that a model can improve from solver-artifact feedback generated by its own rollouts, making self-distillation a practical, evaluator-free source of dense supervision. Therefore, we propose SOLID: Solver-Informed On-Policy LearnIng through Self-Distillation, a novel framework for self-improving OR language models without verified answers or external evaluators. SOLID executes candidate programs from multiple rollouts, clusters their objectives, and selects a majority-group artifact as a pseudo-reference. The model then performs updates using group-relative advantages and dense self-supervision signals. Across multiple OR benchmarks, SOLID improves solution accuracy for both general-purpose and OR-tuned models over outcome-only group-relative training. These results show that solver artifacts can support scalable self-improvement without trusted answers.

Zero-shot rib design: merging training-free generative prior with topology optimization

作者Yongmin Kwon, Namwoo Kang

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Natural load-bearing patterns such as leaf venation, trabecular bone, and spider webs achieve high stiffness per unit mass, yet classical topology optimizers rarely reach such geometries, and few let engineers express structural design intent through natural language. This work treats a frozen text-to-image diffusion model as a training-free source of design knowledge and distills it into the physics loop of density-based topology optimization via score distillation sampling, so that a text prompt becomes an explicit, machine-interpretable representation of engineer intent. The prompt-induced generative gradient and the finite element sensitivity are combined at every iteration, letting physics decide which prompt-induced features survive. In 245 primary SDS runs spanning four geometric domains and two physics regimes, 38 of 49 prompt--domain combinations achieved statistically significant compliance reductions (up to $-31.5%$ mechanical and $-23.0%$ thermoelastic), outperforming gradient-based baselines. Cross-domain morphological analysis identifies a recurring structural signature of improvement: in most domains the generative prior suppresses dead-end branches in the rib skeleton, with endpoint--compliance correlation $r = +0.56$ to $+0.99$. A Heaviside projection with $β$-continuation resolves a pronounced intermediate-density tendency in this diffusion--physics coupling ($42.6%$ to $<3%$), and an automated skeleton-based pipeline converts optimized density fields into \rev{candidate geometry ready for computer-aided design. By retargeting the generative prior across domains, loading conditions, and physics objectives through a change of text prompt, with each new problem's physics setup specified separately, the framework uses a pretrained generative model as a reusable, training-free prior for engineering design.

Myocardial Strain Drift Correction in Deep Learning Based Ultrasound Tracking

作者Thierry Judge, Nicolas Duchateau, Andreas Østvik, Havard Dalen, Bjørnar Grenne, Pierre-Yves Courand, Lasse Lovstakken, Pierre-Marc Jodoin, Olivier Bernard

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Myocardial strain from echocardiography is a key biomarker for cardiac function. Recent deep learning methods show strong performance for myocardial motion tracking but often lack physiological constraints, leading to temporal drift across the cardiac cycle. Consequently, tracked points may not return to their relative initial positions at the end of each cardiac cycle, producing inaccurate strain estimates and even divergence in some cases. We propose a deep learning framework that compensates for drift during myocardial tracking. We extend a state-of-the-art echocardiographic tracking method (TAS-Net) with persistent memory tokens that share information across sliding windows over full cardiac cycles. A teacher-student fine-tuning strategy on real echocardiographic data then enforces physiologically consistent cyclic motion while preserving tracking accuracy. Experiments show reduced global and regional strain drift, improved agreement with clinical references, and better test-retest reproducibility, supporting more reliable myocardial strain estimation in clinical practice.

Decision Shifts, Lost Label Functionality, and an Inconclusive Grounding Audit in Correctness-Gated Multi-Teacher Distillation

作者Xiaofei Feng

展开完整摘要收起摘要

Candidate decision correctness and rationale grounding are different objectives. We examine correctness-gated multi-teacher distillation in a fixed experiment. Eight arms share 4,330 sources, a 63.9M-parameter student, 12,990 optimization rows, 406 updates, evidence inputs, and a decoder; seven teacher-based arms use one fixed three-response pool. Three seeds are evaluated on 267 held-out examples. Relative to unfiltered distillation, the correctness-weighted arm differed in accuracy by +0.1660 (95% observed-matrix interval [0.0670, 0.2455]), five-label macro-F1 by +0.1323 ([0.0916, 0.1731]), and task-defined conditional unsafe-action rate by -0.4979 ([-0.5926, -0.3686]). These shifts do not imply uniformly better behavior. Source-label SFT had the highest mean macro-F1 (0.586). The weighted arm had zero Refuted recall in every seed, and two seeds assigned NotEnoughInfo to all 167 claim examples. In an availability-amended audit at one reference seed, weighted and unfiltered outputs had 0/20 versus 1/20 evidence-supported positives and 20/20 versus 19/20 positives containing unsupported material. Samples were non-paired, source overlap was not serialized, and the amendment followed automatic summarization but preceded annotation. The audit therefore cannot estimate a common-source grounding effect and is inconclusive about system-level improvement or harm. Hard filtering already achieved 0.660 accuracy, 0.530 macro-F1, and 0.135 conditional unsafe rate. The implemented weighted arm showed no demonstrated incremental decision benefit over hard filtering. This fixed-matrix failure analysis shows decision redistribution with lost label functionality; the available human audit does not establish a grounding gain.
